Two of my watercolor rose paintings, created on thick paper with a vintage postcard feel. I love the soft, romantic look of loose florals.
A hand holding one of my watercolor rose postcards. The combination of the painted flowers and the script in the background gives it a lovely, nostalgic feel.
Watch me paint these pretty watercolor roses. This process video shows how I use a mop brush to create soft petals and blend colors for a delicate, aesthetic look.
A realistic red rose painted with gouache. I focused on the deep shadows and bright highlights to make the flower look like it's emerging from the page.

A mini painting of a single red tulip with a checkered border. This video shows a fun and simple idea for a small, cute piece of art.
About Floral & Botanical Illustrations
My process for these floral pieces is all about layering. I use a wet-on-wet technique for the soft petal base and then go in with my fine spotter brushes for the sharp details. If you're getting a custom piece, let me know if you want that vintage, handwritten-letter look in the border to make it feel extra personal.
Whether you want a single red rose, a sprawling botanical bouquet, or those tiny tulips I love painting, everything is done by hand. I switch between high-pigment gouache for opaque, vibrant petals and watercolours for that light, breezy aesthetic.
I typically paint on 300 GSM heavy paper, which holds the water beautifully without warping. For those who want something more permanent, I can also paint these designs on small wooden plaques or mini canvases.
Common customizations I do:
- The Vintage Vibe: Adding faux handwritten letters in the background for a romantic, epistolary feel.
- Small Details: Adding dates, names, or short phrases in the border space.
- The Ribbon Touch: If you are gifting these, I often finish them off with a cute gingham ribbon, because the presentation matters just as much as the art.
Since I paint every single petal and leaf from scratch, no two pieces are exactly identical. You get original art, not a print. If you have a specific flower that reminds you of a special day, send me a reference photo, and I will do my best to capture its mood.
