How I Draw My Live Caricatures
Watch how I turn a blank sheet of cardstock into a fun, personalized portrait in just five minutes. Here is a look at the markers, the speed, and the process behind my live sketching.
A quick time-lapse of a full-body caricature. This shows how I build the drawing from simple lines to a complete, personality-filled sketch.
This video shows my process of drawing from a reference, focusing on the head and shoulders. I use confident strokes to build the features and expression.
A close-up of my marker work. You can see how I use varying line thickness and shading with just a black marker to create depth and character.
A birthday caricature created from a photograph. Besides live events, I also take commissions for personalized gift caricatures for special occasions.
About The Artist's Process
People often ask how I manage to capture a likeness so quickly. The secret is focusing on the 'energy' rather than perfect anatomy. When I am sketching live, I look for that one distinct feature—the glasses, the smile, or even a specific hairstyle—that makes you, you. It is not about making a perfect portrait, but creating a fun, bold, and slightly exaggerated memory you can take home the moment you leave the chair.
From Blank Page to Keepsake
My process is built for live events. I do not spend hours on a single piece; I have about five minutes per guest to make an impression. I work exclusively with permanent, high-quality black markers on thick 180-200 GSM artist cardstock. This ensures the drawing is durable and ready to be framed the moment I hand it over.
The 'Live' Experience
When you book me for an event in Bangalore or across Karnataka, I bring my own setup: a stable easel, a clip-on LED light (crucial for evening receptions), and all the art supplies. I only need a 6x6 feet space and three chairs from your end.
Why Hand-Drawn?
There is a specific kind of 'masthi' (fun) that happens when guests watch a drawing come alive. It turns the act of getting a sketch into a piece of entertainment.
- The Pace: I average 10 to 12 faces per hour. If the crowd is large, I prioritize quality and keep the style punchy.
- The Finish: Every sketch is placed in a clear plastic sleeve. It protects the ink from smudging while your guests carry it around the venue or tuck it into their bags.
- The Style: I focus on humorous exaggeration. I am not trying to make a photo-realistic portrait. The goal is to make people laugh when they see their own cartoonish features on paper.
If you are planning an office party or a wedding, knowing this workflow helps. It keeps things predictable for you and keeps the energy high for your guests.
Ravi
I am Ravi, and my job is basically to make your guests laugh. I set up my easel, grab my markers, and turn fleeting party moments into portraits that people actually want to keep. It is fast, it is honest, and it is all about catching that surprise smile.
