Technical Cricket Coaching: Master the Fundamentals
Before you try to hit the ball, you need to know how to hold the bat. We focus on grip, stance, and eye level before you take a single shot.
It all starts with the basics. Here, I am explaining the correct V-shape grip to a young player, ensuring the top and bottom hands are positioned perfectly on the bat for maximum control.
A stable batting stance is non-negotiable. I teach my players to maintain a shoulder-width stance for balance and to keep their eyes level, because a still head follows still eyes.
A demonstration of the correct and incorrect batting stance. A proper stance provides balance and readiness, which is the first step to playing any shot effectively.
Your head position is everything. I train players to keep their head still and eyes level while tapping the bat, which is crucial for judging the ball's line and length accurately.
Understanding the backlift is key to generating power and timing. I guide players on how to adjust their backlift for defensive shots versus aggressive hitting, ensuring it comes from the top hand.
We work on trigger movements to ensure you are balanced and ready before the ball is delivered. A neutral position allows you to move forward or back with equal ease.
A detailed look at front foot landing. Landing on the heel first allows for proper weight transfer into the drive, a common flaw I correct in young cricketers who often land on their toe.
Adjusting your stride is crucial. Here, I explain how to use a longer stride against slower bowling and a shorter, more compact movement against faster bowlers to maintain balance and timing.
A firm defense is the most important shot in cricket. This drill focuses on playing with soft hands, leading with the front shoulder, and playing the ball late, close to the body.
To play a good drive, your body weight must be on the front foot and your head must be still. I teach players to meet the ball under their eyes, not in front, to keep the shot on the ground.
About Technical Coaching: Master the Fundamentals
Before you sign up, know this: I don't believe in quick fixes. When you come here, we start with the absolute basics—your grip and stance. If your V-shape is wrong or your eyes aren't level, no amount of power hitting will save your innings. I record these sessions, we look at the footage, and we correct it. Be ready to practice the same shot fifty times until it’s second nature.
Cricket is simple, but it is not easy. Most academies let you hit balls aimlessly. Here, we build your game from the ground up.
Why Basics Matter
If your foundation is weak, your performance will crumble under pressure. Whether you are aiming for MCA club trials or just want to improve your school team representation, we start with:
- The Grip: The 'V' shape on the bat handle is where it all starts. If your top hand isn't right, you cannot control your shot.
- Stance & Balance: A stable base is non-negotiable. We focus on shoulder-width positioning and eye level, not just head position.
- Movement: From trigger movements to front foot landing, we train your body to react instinctively to every delivery.
The RCA Approach
We use a mix of synthetic and leather balls to simulate real match environments. I don't just tell you what's wrong—I show you. With video analysis, we review your technique immediately. You see the gap in your backlift or the error in your stride as it happens. We cover all technical aspects, including defense, cover and straight drives, pull shots, seam positioning, and run-up optimization.
This is a six-month process of grind and discipline. If you are here for 'timepass', this isn't for you. If you are here to build a career in cricket and eventually play for MCA affiliated clubs, join me on the maidaan.
