Creative Lighting and Night Portraits
Once the sun sets, we switch gears to create moody, cinematic portraits that stand out. Discover how we use light to tell your story in a bold, new way.
A romantic embrace during a night shoot. I used a prism to create the rainbow light flare, adding a touch of magic and dreaminess to this otherwise classic portrait.
A dramatic portrait using shadow and light. The bride is illuminated while the groom remains partially in shadow, creating a moody and mysterious image with a cinematic feel.
A soft, dreamy close-up using a flare effect to create a warm, golden glow. This technique enhances the romance and intimacy of the moment, making it feel like a memory.
A bold and modern portrait using red and blue colored gels. This lighting technique creates a vibrant, high-fashion look that is perfect for couples wanting something edgy and artistic.
A timeless black and white studio portrait. The classic lighting creates soft shadows and highlights, focusing on the couple's elegant pose and the texture of their outfits.
A collage of two creative, low-light portraits. One uses a sliver of light to highlight the bride's eyes, while the other is a backlit silhouette, showcasing different artistic approaches to night photography.
A dramatic collage featuring solo portraits of the bride and groom. The use of deep shadows and warm, focused light creates a moody, cinematic feel, highlighting them in their grand, glittering outfits.
About Creative Lighting & Night Shoots
I do not just put a camera on a tripod when it gets dark. I rely on off-camera flash, coloured gels, and prisms to manipulate light, ensuring your night portraits have that moody, high-fashion edge. It is about creating drama, not just visibility, even in low-light environments.
When the golden hour fades, the real experimentation begins. Many couples worry that a shoot must end when natural light does, but I find that night photography allows for much more creative control. By introducing external light sources, we can carve out silhouettes or bring out the deep colours in your outfits that get lost during the day.
I often use red and blue gels to create a high-contrast, edgy look, or prisms to add an organic, dreamy flare to your images. This is not just about shooting in the dark; it is about using light as a brush to paint a cinematic scene. Whether we are working in an urban setting with city lights as a backdrop or in a controlled environment where I build the lighting from scratch, the goal is always to keep your connection the focal point.
If you are worried about the setting, do not be. I have a professional portable flash setup that allows me to shoot high-end portraits anywhere, from hotel lobbies to quiet garden spots. You get the polish of a studio shoot with the vibe of an outdoor adventure.
