Saree Styling Secrets: Look Tall and Slim
Saree draping doesn't have to be a struggle. Whether you're getting ready for a wedding or daily office wear, I'm here to show you how to nail that slim, elegant silhouette in minutes.
Here is part two of my guide on how to look tall and slim in a saree. I share tips like wearing heels before draping, keeping the pallu long, and using a fish-cut petticoat to enhance your silhouette.
Want to pose for photos like a celebrity this wedding season? I'll show you some simple and elegant saree poses that will make you look graceful and confident in all your pictures.
About My Saree Styling Secrets
The biggest mistake I see? Wearing flats before you start draping. Always wear your heels first. When I drape for clients, I verify the floor-length finish with their chosen heels on—it prevents that awkward short-saree look and instantly lengthens your frame.
Looking tall and slim in a saree isn't about being thin; it's about fabric choice and technique.
My Go-To Styling Hacks
- Fabric Choice: Skip stiff, bulky fabrics if you want a sleek look. Georgette, chiffon, or soft cotton drape closer to the body and create a streamlined effect.
- The Petticoat Hack: I almost always recommend a fish-cut petticoat or shapewear. It smooths out the waist and gives that perfect 'cylinder' shape that makes you look taller.
- Navel Positioning: For my petite clients, I suggest wearing the saree slightly above the navel. This simple adjustment shifts the waistline visually and makes your legs appear longer.
- The Pallu Trick: Keep your pallu long. A short, tucked-in pallu cuts your height visually. Letting it flow naturally creates a vertical line that elongates your entire body.
Beyond The Drape
It is not just about how you wrap the saree; it is how you carry it. Many of us spend hours getting the pleats perfect but forget about posing. In the images above, you'll see simple leg placement tricks. Even shifting your weight slightly to one side while keeping your heels aligned changes how the saree falls on camera.
If you are tired of the 10-minute struggle every morning, my one-minute draping hack involves pre-pleating and setting the saree so it slides on like a ready-made garment. It saves time, keeps the pleats sharp, and ensures you aren't fixing your pallu all day.
