Benne, Mumbai: Reimagining the Dosa Joint
This project was a contemporary homage to Bangalore's dosa culture, designed to feel authentic, unpretentious, and warm. We used traditional materials in minimalist forms and focused on an open kitchen as the heart of the space, creating a narrative around the ritual of dosa making.
This 3D walkthrough shows our vision for Benne, focusing on how natural light would interact with the space. The play of light and shadow animates the textures and creates a calm, inviting rhythm.
An architectural sketch of the entrance, envisioning a welcoming space that blends seamlessly with the neighborhood. The design includes planters and simple signage to create a friendly street presence.
A top-down sketch imagining the communal dining table, a central feature designed to foster the inclusive spirit of Bangalore's darshinis. It's a stage for connection over a shared meal.
This sectional sketch reveals the spatial storytelling at Benne. It shows the choreography between the street, the transparent facade, and the open dosa counter, which acts as the heart of the restaurant.
The design narrative for Benne. Our brief was to create a contemporary homage to dosa culture that feels as comforting and reliable as a perfectly made dosa itself.
Our mission statement for the project: to reinvent the Dosa joint. This guided our design decisions, pushing us to create something modern yet deeply rooted in tradition.
A facade sketch focusing on the large windows and outdoor seating, designed to create a porous boundary between the restaurant and the street, inviting the community in.
