The Neelayambary Story: Handmade Kerala Skincare From My Home
I am Rajitha, and Neelayambary is my labour of love. I believe in returning to the simple, traditional ways we grew up with—no chemicals, no mass production, just pure nature bottled with care.
This is where the magic happens. Making our natural hair oil is a long process, using a traditional uruli and fresh herbs. The beautiful aroma of the herbs cooking in pure coconut oil fills the air, and this is the love I pack into every bottle.
On May Day, when many are resting, I find joy in my work. Since I am the worker and the owner, I decided to spend the day making soaps and labeling my products. This is my passion, and I am grateful for it every day.
My little helper and I, bottling a fresh batch of our hair care oil. Teaching her about our traditions and the goodness of natural ingredients is very important to me. Every bottle is filled with care, right from our home.
I was so proud to see my story featured in this magazine. I started this journey without knowing much about business, but with a passion for natural products. Your trust and the quality of my products have brought Neelayambary this far.
A wide view of my stall at the Onam market. I had my entire range of handmade products on display, from soaps and oils to body washes. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with so many of you.
A short video from the Onam festival at Kottakkunnu, Malappuram. You can see the bustling crowd and our Neelayambary stall, filled with all your favourite natural products. It was a successful and happy event for us.
Packing a large order for a loyal customer. I use shredded paper to make sure the products are safe during shipping. Seeing my products go out to you in these boxes is a feeling of immense gratitude.
Life brings challenges. Recently, our production unit was damaged by a storm, but we are back. Your support helps us overcome these hurdles and also allows us to contribute to those in need, like the people affected by the floods in Wayanad.
A glimpse of the magazine article that featured our Neelayambary journey. It tells the story of how our small, home-based brand grew with the love and support of customers like you.
This page from the magazine shows my family, who are my biggest support system. The article talks about our journey and the principles behind Neelayambary, focusing on pure, natural ingredients.
About My Story & Process (എന്റെ കഥയും നിർമ്മാണവും)
You won't find factories or big machines here. When you order, I personally start the process, often cooking herbs in a traditional uruli or bottling oils with my daughter's help. Because I craft everything in small, fresh batches right after you order, you get potent products free from harsh preservatives. It is slow work, but it is real, honest work.
How It All Happens
My day starts in my kitchen and workspace. Every bottle of hair oil you see here begins with sourcing local herbs like Neelayamari and Chembarathi. I use a traditional uruli (a heavy iron cooking vessel) to slow-cook these into coconut oil. It is a patient process where the smell of fresh herbs filling the room tells me it is ready.
Why Small Batches Matter
I do not keep big stocks of pre-made products. When you place an order, that is when I start preparing your items. This is not just about freshness. It is about keeping things 100 percent natural without needing harsh preservatives that shelf-stable products require. From the soap bases I use to the recycled packaging materials, I keep everything as clean as possible.
My Family, My Team
Neelayambary is just me and my family. We are the workers and the owners. You might see my daughter helping me with bottling or labeling on a holiday. When you buy from me, you are supporting a home-based unit that values Kerala’s traditional wisdom over mass production.

Neelayambary
I am Rajitha, the worker and owner of Neelayambary. I started this because I missed the pure, simple care of my childhood, and I wanted to bring that back to your busy lives, one handmade bottle at a time.
