Student Poetry Recitals and Performance Skills
Watching our students share their own work is our favourite part of the process. From heartfelt poems to dramatic speeches, we help children find their unique voice and express it with confidence.
We encourage students to not just learn but also create. Here, our student Jia performs a fun Halloween poem she wrote during our creative writing sessions. This is a perfect example of combining writing skills with public speaking practice.
Listen to our student Jinaya's expressive recitation of 'The Professor' by Nissim Ezekiel for World Poetry Day. Our speech and drama classes help students master voice modulation, posture, and performance confidence for any stage.
About Student Performances & Recitals
We do not just teach reading; we train students to understand the rhythm and emotion behind every word. During our sessions, students practice reciting in small groups, where they receive constructive peer feedback and teacher guidance on voice modulation and posture. This builds the stage presence necessary for any performance, whether for a school competition or a family gathering.
Building Confidence Through Performance
At Neeva's Classes, we believe that speech and drama are about more than just reciting lines. It is about helping a child find the courage to stand up and be heard. Whether a student is preparing for an inter-school debate or just wants to share a poem they wrote, we provide the tools to make that moment shine.
Our Approach to Speech and Drama
We keep our batches small, typically 4 to 6 students. This ensures that every child gets significant individual speaking time in every session. Our curriculum focuses on:
- Voice Modulation: Learning how to change tone, pitch, and speed to convey emotion.
- Stage Presence: Working on posture, eye contact, and removing the 'nerves' that come with speaking in public.
- Performance Drills: Using 'Just a Minute' games and impromptu speaking exercises to think on their feet.
- Constructive Critique: Learning to give and receive feedback in a positive environment where everyone supports each other's growth.
From Writing to Reciting
Many of our students start in our creative writing workshops, drafting their own poems or short stories. When they perform these pieces, the connection is personal. A student who writes a poem about a pumpkin at Halloween or interprets a classic verse for World Poetry Day is doing more than memorizing text; they are expressing their own perspective. We record these moments during our virtual showcases so parents can see their child's progress over time.
Getting Started
We know that committing to a new activity can be daunting. That is why we offer a free demo class. Come meet our teachers, see how we interact with our students, and let your child experience the joy of performance first-hand.
