About this collection
The beauty of a stage performance is only the final layer of a much deeper process. Whether it is refining a specific mudra for 'Venkatesha Shreesha' or coordinating rhythm with the musicians, the work happens in the hours of daily practice before the audience arrives. These behind-the-scenes moments reflect the rigour of the Thanjavur Bani tradition I follow under the guidance of my Guru, Sri P. Praveen Kumar, ensuring every movement remains rooted in authenticity.
My journey in dance is built on the foundation of Guru Parampara. Every piece I present, from a classic Margam to a thematic production, is carefully crafted to honor this lineage. When you see me on stage, you are seeing the result of hours of collaborative work with my ensemble—the vocalist, mridangam artist, and flautist from Bengaluru who bring the Carnatic music to life.
The Importance of Live Music
Unlike recorded tracks, a live Carnatic orchestra breathes with the dancer. It allows for spontaneous improvisations and an exchange of energy that makes a recital truly immersive. This is why I insist on live accompanists for my traditional recitals whenever possible, as it captures the true essence of the Sabha experience.
Art as Healing
Dance has been my refuge. I have spoken openly about how returning to the practice of dance helped me navigate challenging times. This belief—that art truly heals—is at the core of how I approach my performances and how I mentor my students at Bharathadyuthi. It is not just about technique; it is about finding a connection between the mind, the body, and the story we are telling.
My Approach to Performance
I am available for performances across Bengaluru and can travel for festivals and events. Whether you are hosting a traditional wedding, a corporate opening, or a cultural event, I bring the same dedication to detail—from the selection of the costume to the authenticity of the choreography—that I apply to my own solo recitals.
