Getting extensions is fun, but safe removal and timely refills are how you keep your natural nails strong. I bring the salon to you, with gentle techniques that ensure your nails stay healthy.

This video shows part one of my gel overlay refill process. I carefully file down the old product and prep the natural nail for a fresh application, ensuring the nail remains healthy and strong.

About Nail Health: Removals & Refills

I use a low-rotation, 15,000 RPM drill for all my refills and removals because the last thing you need is nail thinning. Many standard salons use high-speed drills that can damage your natural nail plate, but my process is designed to carefully debulk the old product without causing pain or heat sensitivity. You are left with healthy, clean nails, whether we are prepping for a fresh set or taking the product off completely.

Why Refills Are Important

When you get gel extensions, your natural nail keeps growing. After 3 to 4 weeks, you will see a gap between your cuticle and the gel. This isn't just an aesthetic issue; it shifts the weight of the extension to the tip of your nail, making it prone to snapping or lifting. A professional refill involves debulking the old product, re-balancing the structure, and applying fresh gel to the growth area. It keeps your hands looking clean without the commitment of a brand-new set.

The Safe Removal Process

Many clients ask me, 'Will removing gel damage my nails?' The answer is no, if it is done right. I never pull or rip off extensions. I use a proper step-by-step process: filing down the bulk of the gel, followed by careful cuticle care and finishing with nourishing oil. It is a slow, methodical process that prioritizes the health of your natural nail bed.

My Approach to Nail Health

  • No-Damage Prep: I use a waterless, e-file Russian-style manicure to clean cuticles, which is much safer than pushing them back harshly with metal tools.
  • Quality Products: For refills, I use multifunctional builder gels, such as the Vineme range, which helps strengthen your natural nails while acting as a seamless base.
  • Maintenance Tips: If you notice any lifting, please do not pick at your nails. Picking pulls off layers of your natural nail along with the gel, leading to thin and brittle nails. Just reach out, and we can fix it before it becomes a bigger problem.
