Cricket Fitness Drills & Training Methods
Fitness must. Whether you are using resistance parachutes for explosive speed or hitting target zones with spot bowling, these are the drills that build match-ready cricketers.
Fitness is non-negotiable. Here are some of my athletes working on strength and conditioning exercises that are crucial for modern cricket.
My student Parth working on his fitness. Building a strong core and lower body is essential for powerful batting and fast bowling.
"Fit hai to hit hai." A player doing resistance parachute sprints to improve his running speed and acceleration between the wickets.
Another angle of the parachute sprint drill. This kind of high-intensity training builds the endurance needed to last through long matches.
More fitness drills. I ensure every player understands that their performance on the field starts with their work in the gym and during these training sessions.
A close-up of the resistance parachute drill. This is tough work, but it delivers results in speed and power.
A personal coaching session on bowling. I am giving real-time feedback to my student Som to help him perfect his line, length, and swing.
A left-arm chinaman bowler practicing spot bowling. This unique skill is a great asset, and we work hard to perfect the control and turn.
Another delivery from my student Abhishek, hitting the target perfectly. Repetition and focus are key to mastering the art of spin bowling.
My 11-year-old student Parth Rane practicing out-swing bowling. We use cone markers to help him visualize the perfect line and length.
About The Grind: Training & Fitness Drills
You will often hear me say, 'Fitness must,' because raw talent needs a strong engine to perform. Whether it is resistance parachute sprints to boost your acceleration between the wickets or using cone markers for precise spot bowling, we train with a purpose. Every sweat drop in these nets is calculated to help you handle real match pressure, not just look good on the field.
Building the Engine
Cricket is played with the feet and the brain, but the engine is your fitness. At the Mumbai Cricket Academy, I don't believe in lazy training. We use resistance parachutes to force your body to work harder during sprints, which directly translates to faster singles and explosive movement in the field. This isn't gym work for vanity; it is functional, cricket-specific conditioning designed to make you last the distance.
Technical Precision Through Repetition
You see the photos of my students hitting the markers? That is what I call 'spot bowling.' Whether it's Parth Rane practicing his out-swing or Som working on his line, we use visual guides to build muscle memory. We don't just bowl for volume; we bowl for the target. When you train on astro-turf or turf wickets at the Yeoor Indoor Academy or Central Ground, you learn to trust your release point under pressure.
What to Expect in Training
- High-Intensity Intervals: We combine drills like parachute sprints with skill work to simulate the fatigue of a long match day.
- Technical Correction: My 1-on-1 sessions involve frame-by-frame video analysis. If your wrist position is wrong or your release point is off, we catch it instantly, not next week.
- Match Simulation: It’s all well and good to hit the target in practice, but can you do it when a batter is charging at you? We setup internal practice matches and simulate game scenarios to make sure your training sticks when it counts.
