Behind every polished performance is a raw, messy, and dedicated process. Here is how I turn concepts into stage magic, one rehearsal at a time.

This is a look at the reality of choreography. What looks like a simple three step process is actually a detailed plan covering everything from budgeting and concepts to prop selection and technical checks.

A successful choreographer must know the difference between what is in their control and what is not. I focus on what I can control: quality choreography, innovative concepts, and perfect execution.

Here are some key tips for mastering the art of captivating group choreography. It all starts with a strong concept and understanding how to manage a large group of dancers on stage.

One of my key techniques is to play with levels and canons. Using staggered heights and sequential movements creates depth and a dynamic flow that makes group choreography visually interesting.

Utilize the entire performance space. I encourage dancers to use platforms or multi level sets to create a dynamic visual landscape, which adds another dimension to the performance.

When working with a large group, it's important to break it down. I section the group into smaller units for easier learning and then layer their movements for a cohesive final effect.

Remember, it's a team effort. Large scale choreography thrives on clear communication and teamwork. My job is to keep the dancers motivated and ensure we have fun in the process.

The most important tip is to get out there and experiment. With these principles and a dash of your own creativity, you can have a large group moving in perfect harmony.

Here are three things I absolutely love about my job as a choreographer: the travel, the client's happy face, and my dedicated team members. I am grateful for every moment of this incredible journey.

About Choreography Insights & Tips

When I take on a choreography project, I look at your event layout and song selection first. Many clients underestimate the importance of stage blocking, but if your venue is a crowded hotel ballroom versus an open-air stage, that changes how I position your group. I also handle the technical editing of your music mix so transitions are seamless, which means you do not have to worry about the DJ missing a cue or a long gap during your performance.

People often see a flawless group dance and think it happened overnight. My work is actually about managing the chaos of rehearsals to make sure the final result looks effortless.

My Approach to Group Choreography

To make a large group look professional, I focus on 'levels and canons.' I use staggered heights—having some dancers sit, some stand, and others on platforms—to create depth. This prevents the performance from looking flat.

I also break groups into smaller units for learning. It is much easier for a family member or a corporate employee to learn a 30-second sequence than to memorize an entire four-minute song in one go. Once we have those units, we layer the movements for a cohesive final effect.

Why Planning Matters

I define my work by what I can control. Weather, audience reaction, or sudden venue changes are often out of our hands, but the quality of the choreography and the precision of the music edits are things I manage strictly.

Whether you are booking a Sangeet package in Mumbai or a larger production, my process remains the same:

  1. Concept & Budgeting: We define the vision before the first step is taught.
  2. Music Editing: I ensure your tracks are mixed to match the energy of the dance.
  3. Technical Checks: I review stage marking to guide positioning.
  4. Supervision: I am on-site to cue the music and handle the sequence flow.

I treat every stage like a canvas. My goal is to deliver more than you expected, ensuring that when the music starts, you can simply enjoy the moment.
