Behind the Knots: My Hand-Knotted Macrame Process
Ever wonder how a spool of cotton becomes a textured boho wall hanging? Welcome to my studio, where I turn pure cotton cord into decor, one knot at a time.
Watch this half-moon wall hanging come to life, one knot at a time. This video shows the process of layering different colors and patterns to build the final design. It’s a labor of love, and I enjoy every moment.
The satisfying process of finishing a macrame coaster. After knotting the spiral pattern, I secure the back and trim the fringe to create a clean, beautiful finish. These little details make all the difference.

About Behind the Knots
Every piece here starts as a raw spool of 100% pure cotton cord. Since I create everything by hand, each design—from the fringe on a coaster to the intricate mandala on a wall hanging—takes about 25 to 30 days to complete. It is a slow, meditative process, but that is how I ensure every knot is tight, durable, and ready to last in your home.
How It Comes Together
When you order a piece from Knots and Woods, you are not getting something mass-produced. You are getting hours of labor, care, and intention. I start by selecting 3mm to 4mm cotton cord for its softness and durability, ensuring your decor feels as good as it looks.
For my wall hangings, I hunt for the right pieces of treated, natural driftwood. This gives every hanging a unique, earthy silhouette that you just cannot replicate with plastic or metal rods. Once the knotting begins, I use techniques like the berry, diamond, and spiral knots to create the texture you see in my work.
Quality That Lasts
I want your macrame to stay beautiful for years. That is why every finished piece gets a precision trim and an anti-dust spray treatment to help it hold its shape. If you choose a cushion cover, I use a high-quality fabric back with a zipper so you can easily remove and wash it without worrying about the macrame front panel.
Your Vision, My Hands
Because I make these one by one, we can change almost anything. If you love a mandala mirror but want it in a different shade of green or terracotta, let me know. I have over 20 color palettes available. Whether you need a specific width to fit over your sofa or a certain length for your nursery, we can adjust the design to fit your wall perfectly. Just reach out, and let’s start planning your piece.
