A beautiful kitchen is useless if it cannot handle your Sunday dosa prep or store that extra-large idli steamer. When I design, I do not start with a catalog; I start by asking how you actually cook. We prioritize 'active zones'—keeping your masalas, daily appliances, and cleaning supplies exactly where your hand reaches, rather than hiding them in a corner where you will never use them.
Function Meets Reality
Designing for a city like Mumbai means acknowledging that real estate is a luxury. We do not have the space for a massive, empty kitchen that looks good in a magazine but fails in practice. My process revolves around 'kaise plan karte ho aap log?' (how do you plan it at home?). Whether you need a dry and wet zone separation for heavy cooking or a compact island that doubles as a breakfast table, the design must adapt to your life, not the other way around.
The Anatomy of Our Kitchens
- Hardware That Lasts: I rely on German engineering from Blum and Hettich. These are not just brand names; they are the difference between a drawer that gets stuck after six months and one that operates smoothly for years. We use soft-close mechanisms, lift-up systems for overhead cabinets, and heavy-duty tandem boxes.
- Material Integrity: Aesthetics are important, but durability comes first. I use BWP (Boiling Water Proof) Marine Grade Plywood for the carcass. It resists moisture, which is non-negotiable in Indian kitchens where water usage is high.
- Smart Storage: I integrate pull-out pantries, corner carousel units, and appliance garages to clear your countertops. If you have to move five items to reach your mixer, the design has failed. We eliminate that friction.
Technology Integration
We are moving toward smarter, voice-controlled homes. I can integrate Alexa-enabled cabinets and sensor lighting, making your kitchen hands-free. This is not about adding gadgets for the sake of it; it is about making your daily routine faster and more efficient.
