Ganesh Chaturthi Photography: Cinematic Rituals in Maharashtra
I capture the soul of Ganesh Chaturthi, from the silent, artistic creation in Parel to the roaring, emotional energy of Visarjan.
This video captures the essence of Ganesh Chaturthi in Maharashtra. From the stunningly detailed idols to the energy of the crowds, it shows why this festival is considered the best time of the year, turning the entire state into a canvas of devotion and celebration.
I take you inside one of Mumbai's biggest Ganpati workshops in Parel. This is where the magic begins, with artisans pouring their heart and soul into crafting each idol. You can see the journey from simple clay to a divine form, a process of pure art and spirituality.
A perfectly framed shot of the famous Chinchpokli Cha Chintamani, seen through the leaves. It was a crowded day, but this view felt like a personal blessing from Bappa, reminding me that he always shows a way, even in chaos.
This reel captures the bittersweet feeling of the "Toughest Goodbye Ever" during Ganpati Visarjan at Gorai Beach. It focuses on the human emotions, from a young girl's prayer to the final farewell, showing that every end is just the promise of a new beginning.
A full-frontal shot of a stunningly detailed black Ganpati idol, showcasing the intricate jewelry and serene expression. This image highlights the incredible craftsmanship that goes into creating these masterpieces for the festival.
A close-up profile of the black Ganpati idol, focusing on the tilak and the powerful gaze. This perspective emphasizes the divine presence and the artistic details that make each idol unique.
Another angle on the black Ganpati idol, capturing the intensity in its eyes. This shot is all about the emotion and power that the artisans are able to convey through their craft.
About this collection
When I document Ganpati, I focus on the moments that people usually miss—the artisan's hand in Parel, a devotee's quiet prayer, or the specific 'mudra' of the idol. It’s not just about taking photos; it’s about capturing the bhaav (emotion) of the festival so you can feel the energy long after the idol has left for Visarjan.
Beyond the Crowd: A Cinematic Approach
Most people see the crowd at Ganesh Chaturthi, but I look for the quiet intersections of faith and art. Whether I am shooting at a workshop in Parel watching clay transform into a divine form, or standing at Gorai Beach capturing the bittersweet tears of Visarjan, my goal is the same: to tell a story.
My Process & Gear
I treat every event like a documentary project. I don't just point and shoot. I use my Sony ZV-E1 to get that buttery, cinematic look, and the Tamron 35-150mm lens allows me to switch from wide environmental shots to intimate portraits of the idol's expressions without needing to move around too much in a packed crowd. For aerial shots, my DJI Mini 3 Pro helps me show the scale of the procession from above.
What You Get
I offer a few different ways to capture your festival:
- The Half-Day Package: Perfect for a focused 6-hour session at your Pandal or specific ceremony. You get one vertical cinematic reel and 20 sharp, color-graded photos.
- The Full-Day Experience: For those who want the full journey from morning rituals to the evening immersion. This includes drone coverage, a long-form mini-vlog with voiceover, and 40 curated photos.
I believe the best photos aren't taken; they are felt. If you are looking for someone who understands the kismat (destiny) and the chaos of these festivals, let’s talk.
