About Elegant Updos & Buns
A truly great updo is as much about structure as it is about style. To get that clean, voluminous look without weighing you down, I use synthetic padding and secure pinning techniques—often using over 40 pins—so your Maang Tikka stays perfectly in place and your bun remains completely secure, even through hours of dancing or long wedding ceremonies.
Whether you are a bride looking for a classic look or the mother of the bride needing something sophisticated and graceful, an updo is often the safest bet for a long event. It keeps you cool, showcases your jewellery, and stays consistent regardless of the humidity.
My Approach to Structured Styling
I steer clear of styles that look overdone. Instead, I focus on sophisticated elegance. For brides, this might mean a sleek, middle-parted low bun that perfectly frames a Matha Patti. For mothers, it is often a soft, twisted updo that feels age-appropriate, graceful, and comfortable for the entire day.
The Technical Detail
Volume is not an accident; it is engineering. I use lightweight synthetic donuts and padding to build the base of your updo. This keeps the shape full without adding excessive weight to your head. For intricate braiding, I ensure the braids are tight enough to define the pattern but loose enough to look natural.
Managing Accessories
Flowers and jewellery are the final touch. I take the time to cut your fresh flowers—gajras, roses, or gypsophila—and pin them individually so they nestle into the style rather than just sitting on top. If you have a Jhoomar or Maang Tikka, I use a specific double-pinning technique to prevent slipping, which is a common worry for many clients.
Preparation for Best Results
- Hair Texture: Clean, dry hair is non-negotiable for a strong foundation. Please ensure your hair is washed and dried before I arrive.
- Consultation: Tell me about your outfit’s neckline. A high-neck blouse calls for a high bun to elongate the neck, while a deep-cut back looks stunning with a low, intricate side bun.
- Versatility: My updos are built to last. Whether it is a day wedding in Mumbai or a destination event in humid weather, my goal is to make sure your hair looks exactly as good at the reception as it did when I finished.
