Creative Resin Experiments and Unconventional Art Techniques
Ever wondered what happens if you add everyday items like eyeshadow to resin? This is where I break the rules, test out new pigments, and share the results of my latest art experiments.
I always wondered what would happen if I used eyeshadow as a pigment in resin. I finally tried it, and the result was this beautiful, shimmery effect. It's a fun reminder to experiment and not be afraid to try new things.
About Fun with Resin: Creative Experiments
You might be tempted to use household items like makeup or acrylic paints in your resin mixes, but watch out for oil content. If your additives are not resin-compatible, your piece might never cure properly, leaving you with a sticky, unusable mess. I always test a tiny batch first to ensure the colors react well before attempting a full pour.
Resin art is as much about chemistry as it is about creativity. When I share videos of myself mixing unexpected ingredients, it is not just for the aesthetic—it is because I am constantly testing boundaries. Most people only see the final glossy product, but the path to get there is full of 'what-ifs.'
Why experimentation matters If you stick only to standard pigments, your work will eventually look like everyone else's. I use this cluster to document what happens when I try to incorporate non-traditional materials like metal scraps, botanical elements, or even unusual makeup pigments. It is the only way to find your unique signature style.
The technical side of trying new things The biggest danger when experimenting is affecting the curing process. Resin is a delicate chemical mix. Adding too much alcohol, oil-based products, or water can result in bubbles, soft spots, or a piece that never fully hardens. My tip for beginners: start with small 50ml test batches. Never experiment on a valuable or sentimental piece until you have proven the technique on a small, disposable test mold.
Learning from the process I started Flicker Colors in a small room in Nagarbhavi by making these exact mistakes. Now, in my workshops, I teach you how to avoid the wasted material and the frustration of ruined pours. If you want to move beyond basic kits and start creating art that is truly your own, my 1-on-1 sessions are designed to help you build that confidence.
