Playful & Practical Kids' Rooms That Grow With Your Child
I focus on creating imaginative spaces that prioritize both safety and function, designing rooms that are as fun to play in as they are easy to organize.
This reading nook is one of my favorite features in this girls' room. The wardrobe includes a cozy, circular cutout perfect for curling up with a book, and the long green bench provides extra seating and storage.
We designed this shared study area with two arched nooks, giving each sister her own dedicated workspace. A central cabinet provides storage, and the light wood and soft pink chairs keep the space feeling bright and cheerful.
This activity area was designed to inspire play. It includes a counter for games, Lego-inspired blue storage for artwork, and whimsical cloud-shaped pendant lights.
A cozy seating area in the girls' room with a curved pink chaise and modern black coffee tables. The space is designed to be comfortable for both kids and parents to relax in.
A close-up of the dreamy canopy bed with a pink velvet headboard. We layered cute pillows with rainbows and gingham patterns to add personality and fun.
A video tour of the girls' room, showcasing all the kid-friendly features we included. From the cozy reading nook and ergonomic dressing table to the colorful walk-in closet featuring tiles from my collaboration with Bharat Floorings.
This kids' bedroom in a show apartment features custom-made bedside tables with a unique geometric design. The color palette of beige, grey, and orange is playful yet sophisticated.
The room includes a practical study desk with a rattan chair and a fun, geometric orange TV unit for storage. The design is both kid-friendly and stylish.
A view of the kids' bedroom, showing the narrow layout and how we maximized the space with a floating desk and open shelving.
This kids' activity room features a large table with a chevron pattern, perfect for arts and crafts. The deep blue wardrobes have open shelving to display toys and creations, and a large corkboard shows off their artwork.
About Playful & Practical Kids' Rooms
Designing for children is about finding the balance between a space that feels like a playground and one that actually works for your daily routine. I focus on safety first, using soft rounded edges on furniture and creating low-height storage that lets kids take charge of their own space, while ensuring the room has the flexibility to change from a nursery to a study-heavy bedroom as they grow.
When I approach kids' bedroom design, I think beyond the cute wallpapers. It is about building a foundation that lasts. Whether it is a compact city flat in Mumbai or a larger home in Kolkata, the goal is the same: creating a sanctuary.
I pay close attention to ergonomics, such as lift-up mirror flaps for dressing tables and height-appropriate seating, so the furniture supports their independence. We use durable materials, mixed with fun, tactile elements like velvet headboards and custom geometric nightstands.
A huge part of our process is maximizing floor space. In smaller rooms, I love using floating desks and vertical storage. It keeps the area clear for play. And when it comes to the fun factor, we do not hold back. From our Angel Eye tile collaboration with Bharat Floorings to cloud-shaped pendant lights, we inject personality that feels distinctly theirs.
Planning for a growing child is tricky. We often design modular elements that can evolve. A nursery with a soft canopy can easily transition into a teen's room with a few updates to the soft furnishings. If you have a busy household and need a space that keeps up with your kids, let us talk.
