About High-Energy Nights: Dandiya & Club Events
Hosting a high-energy event is 50% about the crowd and 50% about syncing with the DJ. Before I take the stage, I sit down with the sound team to map out our transitions, ensuring there is zero dead air during set changes or beat drops.
For a Dandiya night or a club event, the energy has to be consistent from start to finish. I don't believe in just standing on stage and making announcements. Whether it is an apartment complex Garba night like my time at Ajnara Pride or a packed club set at places like Imperium, my job is to be the bridge between the music and the audience.
The Hype-Man Approach
My background as a hip-hop artist changes how I handle the mic. I use vocal projection techniques to cut through heavy bass and loud sound systems, which is something standard emcees often struggle with. I watch the floor constantly. If the energy dips during a transition, I am ready with a crowd engagement tactic, a quick interaction with the front row, or a hype-up line to reset the mood.
Why Bilingual Hosting Works
At community Dandiya nights, you often have a mix of age groups. My hosting style switches seamlessly between Hindi and English. This allows me to explain the steps for younger crowds while keeping the respect and pace that older attendees expect. It keeps everyone included, so you don't end up with one half of the crowd dancing and the other half watching from the sidelines.
Pre-Event Coordination
I treat my role as a technical one. Before the event, I conduct a brief with the DJ to understand their setlist. We identify the 'peak' moments where I need to step back and let the music shine, and the 'transition' moments where I need to take charge to maintain momentum. By handling the crowd control and the scheduling, I free you up to focus on the event itself rather than worrying about the mic.
