Pichwai Haldi Decor: Artistic Traditions in Pink
We reimagined the traditional Pichwai art form in a soft, monochromatic pink palette. This setup honors cultural heritage while creating a deeply intimate atmosphere for a Jaipur celebration.
A stunning outdoor lounge setup with plush, curved pink sofas arranged around a tree adorned with cascading pink and white flowers. This creates a natural and breathtaking focal point.
The main Haldi ceremony stage, featuring a backdrop of Sanskrit verses, a central Pichwai-style Shrinathji motif, and a canopy of hanging floral tassels.
An alternate stage setup for the Pichwai theme, featuring motifs of Shrinathji and holy cows, framed by curtains of fresh jasmine flowers (gajras).
A beautiful photo backdrop featuring white arches and a hand-painted mural of a lush, stylized forest, with pillars wrapped in spiraling pink and white floral garlands.
The table decor featured intricate details, including silver artifacts and pearl strings, set against a vibrant pink bandhani-print tablecloth.
Custom-designed plates featuring a whimsical Pichwai painting of a leaping cow among lotus flowers, adding a unique and artistic touch to the dining experience.
The seating areas were personalized with custom-printed cushions featuring the couple's monogram and Pichwai-inspired botanical patterns.
About this collection
I moved away from the customary yellow palette for this Haldi, choosing a layered pink aesthetic that highlights the intricate details of the Pichwai tradition. By incorporating hand-painted motifs of Shrinathji, Sanskrit verses, and floral lotus accents, I transformed a classic cultural theme into a modern, tactile experience that feels both sacred and celebratory.
Designing for a heritage property like the Rambagh Palace requires a delicate balance. I wanted to respect the architectural grandeur while making the decor feel personal. I focused on monochromatic density—using high-volume flowers in shades of pink—to ensure the color saturated the space without relying on traditional green fillers.
The furniture selection was critical. Curved, plush pink sofas provided a modern comfort that invited guests to linger. I replaced standard table centerpieces with silver artifacts, pearl strings, and brass vases filled with tulips and hydrangeas. The result was a space where the Pichwai-inspired illustrations on the backdrops felt like part of the natural environment, not just an overlay.
This approach proves that tradition does not have to feel static. By choosing a distinct color story and committing to the details—down to the custom cushions featuring the couple's monogram—I created a Haldi that felt rooted in ritual yet entirely contemporary. The focus remains on textures and storytelling, ensuring the event feels like a living, breathing chapter of the couple's journey.
