Build Your Science-Backed Daily Skincare Routine

Your skin has a story, and consistency is how you write the next chapter. A simple, science-backed daily routine is more effective than any viral trend.

I wish I knew these three things in my early 20s: use sunscreen every single day, exfoliate only once or twice a week, and always use a gentle cleanser. For makeup removal, double cleanse with micellar water first, and avoid makeup wipes.

A simple but crucial reminder: no skincare product is as important as a moisturizer and a sunscreen. These two products are the foundation of any effective routine for maintaining a healthy skin barrier and protecting against sun damage.

Double cleansing is a vital step, especially at night if you wear makeup or sunscreen. It involves using an oil-based or micellar cleanser first to break down products, followed by a water-based cleanser for a thorough clean that allows other products to penetrate more effectively.

Welcome to my skin shelf. I walk you through a simple and effective daily routine: Vitamin C followed by sunscreen in the morning, and a double cleanse in the evening followed by targeted treatments like retinol and a good moisturizer. Consistency is what delivers results.

A nighttime skincare routine is crucial, especially in winter when dry air can cause breakouts. Night is the ideal time to use targeted serums for acne or pigmentation, as they can work uninterrupted. Always follow with a moisturizer to wake up with hydrated, glowing skin.

Retinol is a powerful ingredient, but it must be used correctly. Always apply it at night, use only a pea-sized amount, follow up with a moisturizer, and use sunscreen diligently the next morning. It should not be used if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy.

It is important to be aware of potentially harmful ingredients in your skincare. I recommend checking labels and avoiding products containing parabens, sulfates, phthalates, formaldehyde, and artificial fragrances, which can cause irritation and other issues.

About this collection

Most people think they need expensive products, but your skin actually craves consistency over variety. If you are struggling with breakouts or dullness, look at your nightly double-cleanse routine first—if you are using SPF daily, you must use an oil-based cleanser or micellar water to properly remove it before your active ingredients can actually penetrate.

The Foundation: Science Over Trends

There is no one magic pill for healthy skin. The real results come from a consistent AM and PM routine that respects your skin barrier. My goal is to simplify your shelf, not add to the clutter.

Your Morning Essentials

  • Cleansing: Use a gentle cleanser to remove the night's impurities without stripping natural oils.
  • Vitamin C: For most skin types, a 10-20% L-ascorbic acid serum provides the antioxidant protection you need against pollution and sun damage.
  • Sunscreen: This is non-negotiable. Whether it is cloudy or sunny, indoors or outdoors, SPF 30 to 50 is the only product proven to prevent premature aging and pigmentation. Look for non-comedogenic options.

The Nighttime Repair

  • Double Cleansing: If you wear makeup or sunscreen, micellar water or an oil-based cleanser is mandatory to break down the barrier before a regular wash.
  • Targeted Actives: Night is when your skin repairs itself. This is the time to apply retinol, anti-acne treatments, or pigmentation correctors. Remember, retinol requires a pea-sized amount and must be used with moisturizer to prevent irritation.
  • Moisturization: A barrier-repairing moisturizer is the final step to seal everything in and prevent transepidermal water loss, especially in our climate.

Common Myths

  • Coconut Oil: Avoid applying this directly to the face if you are prone to acne. It is comedogenic and can clog pores.
  • Exfoliation: More is not better. Over-exfoliating damages the barrier. Once or twice a week is plenty.

Always remember that your skin type is unique. If you have active acne, rosacea, or persistent pigmentation, these general rules may need adjustments. A 20-minute diagnostic session can help us pinpoint your specific needs.
