Themed Learning Journeys for Toddlers
We turn big topics like ocean life and local flora into tiny, hands-on adventures. Each week, your child learns through sensory play and storytelling, building connections that go beyond the classroom.
On the last day of our "Insects" themed summer camp, we learned all about ants. We explored a realistic ant habitat and then got our hands dirty with some fun mud clay activities.
During our "Insects" week, we focused on ladybugs. The children used playdough and mud clay to create their own little ladybugs, practicing their fine motor skills while learning about this lovely insect.
As part of our "Transportation" theme, we explored hot air balloons. We crafted colorful balloons using tissue paper and water, a magical technique that creates a beautiful watercolor effect.
For our "Food" theme, we made a delicious and healthy fruit salad together. The children practiced practical life skills like peeling oranges and slicing bananas, and learned about different fruits.
Our "Food" theme kicked off with a sensory bin filled with orange rice and green channa. We also read a book about why we need food and got messy with some spaghetti painting.
A recap of our "Flora" theme week. We explored everything from leaves and flowers to microgreens, connecting with nature through painting, planting, and sensory play.
During our "Flora" theme, we learned about microgreens. The children planted their own mustard and radish seeds in containers to take home, learning firsthand about how plants grow.
A look back at our "Ocean Life" week. We explored the sea through shaving foam sensory play, made fish-themed art, and learned about different marine creatures.
Our "Ocean Life" theme included a fun rescue mission. Children used their fine motor skills to free sea animals entangled in pipe cleaners, a playful way to learn about helping others.
About Themed Learning Journeys
Our themed journeys are designed for mixed-age groups, meaning whether your child is six months or five years old, they are encouraged to engage at their own pace. We use materials like real mud, water, and seeds to bring concepts to life, and we handle all the cleanup so you can stay fully present with your little one.
At Doe a Dear, our themes act as a foundation for exploration, not just a list of topics. We believe children learn best when they can touch, smell, and move around their environment. For instance, during our 'Food' week, children do not just hear about nutrition; they peel real fruit, crush almonds, and experiment with sensory bins filled with colored rice and lentils. This tactile approach builds fine motor skills and sparks early curiosity.
Why We Rotate Themes
We change themes weekly to provide a fresh lens for discovery. One week we might focus on 'Insects' using mud clay and playdough to recreate ladybugs, and the next we might explore 'Transportation' by crafting hot air balloons. This rotation ensures that your child is always encountering new textures, stories, and scientific concepts in an age-appropriate way.
Learning Through Sustainability
We integrate our love for the planet into every journey. You will often see us repurposing cardboard, egg cartons, and natural items like dried leaves or flowers into our art projects. This teaches children that creativity does not require fancy store-bought supplies, but rather an observant eye and a bit of imagination.
The Bonding Component
While the sensory bins and craft projects are for the kids, the journey is for you both. These sessions are a dedicated hour to step away from the daily routine. Whether you are helping your toddler plant microgreens or painting a large-scale mural together, the focus remains on laughing, sharing, and making memories in a judgment-free space.
Doe A Dear
I am so happy you are here. At Doe a Dear, I created a space where you do not have to worry about the mess or the fuss. It is just you and your child, exploring new worlds through touch and play while building memories that last long after the class ends.
