DJ Voix: The Art of Live Mixing and Equipment Setup
Get an inside look at my technical setup and the process I use to read the crowd and manage the energy of your event.
Every adjustment on the mixer is about shaping the sound and guiding the energy of the room. This close-up shows my hands-on approach to mixing live, ensuring every transition is smooth.
A look at my Pioneer DJ controller, ready for action at a private event. Having reliable, professional gear is essential for delivering the high-quality sound that every party deserves.
Total concentration is key when I'm in the mix. I'm listening intently to cue up the next track, making sure the beat and energy match the moment perfectly.
In this shot, I'm fine-tuning the levels for a set. It's this attention to detail that ensures a clean, powerful sound that fills the venue without being overwhelming.
From arrival and setup to the peak of the party, this video captures the flow of my work. It shows my process of preparing the equipment and then getting into the zone to deliver a high-energy performance.
About The Craft: Behind the Decks
It is never just about plugging in a laptop and hitting play. Whether I am on venue-standard Pioneer CDJs or my own controller, I treat every transition and frequency adjustment as a tool to control the room. I arrive 45 minutes before every gig specifically to test the PA system and integrate my gear, so the bass hits exactly how it should when the party hits its peak.
My process is built on preparation and adaptability. Because I play at venues ranging from intimate gastropubs in London to high-energy clubs, I have to be ready for any acoustic environment.
The Setup
I rely on professional Pioneer gear—CDJ 2000s/3000s and DJM 900 Nexus mixers—because they allow me to mix tracks with precision. If a venue does not have industry-standard equipment, I bring my own controller and MacBook running Rekordbox or Serato. This ensures I never have to compromise on sound quality or rely on a shaky internet connection.
Vibe Management
Technical skill is only half the battle. The other half is reading the crowd. I start my sets by gauging the room’s energy. For a dining crowd, I keep the BPM lower with R&B and retro hits, gradually transitioning into high-energy Bollywood and Punjabi anthems as the night moves toward the dance floor. This is where my signature mashups come in—I create these myself to ensure you get a sound you will not hear in a standard commercial mix.
Why This Matters
Whether it is a corporate event or a wedding sangeet, the goal is always the same: keep people moving. By handling the sound checks, syncing with lighting engineers for cues, and managing the microphone interaction, I ensure that the technical side of things runs in the background so you can focus on enjoying the night with your guests.
