Featured Indian Modern Residential Projects
A curated selection of our work, showcasing our signature Indian Modern style where earthy materials meet contemporary living.
This is our recently completed residence on Hennur Road. The facade balances Italian marble, contrasting textures, and wooden soffits to create an elegant, contemporary home with a strong vertical presence and a welcoming warmth.
In the living room of our Banashankari residence, a traditional wooden swing becomes a playful centerpiece. This space embodies my approach of integrating nostalgic elements into a modern, light-filled home, using Jaisalmer stone flooring and a wood-and-cane false ceiling to create an earthy, grounded feel.
A view looking down the central stairwell, where a custom-designed cluster of cane pendant lights creates a cascade of warmth. This feature highlights my focus on vertical spaces and using lighting not just for function, but as a sculptural element that connects the home's different levels.
A quick tour of the Banashankari residence, showcasing how we design interesting pockets of space even on a compact plot. This video highlights the flow of the home, from the inviting exterior to the gorgeous terrace, proving that good design can create a sense of spaciousness anywhere.
The terrace at our Hennur residence is designed as a seamless extension of the indoors. We used a metal pergola, warm wooden accents, and lush greenery around a tranquil koi pond to create a perfect open-to-sky retreat for relaxed evenings and lively gatherings.
This kitchen at the 'Nest' residence in Odion Rainbow Retreat features a unique breakfast counter that opens directly to the garden. It’s a design choice that blurs the line between inside and out, allowing for a morning coffee with a view and filling the space with natural light.
An earthy and minimal bedroom in our Banashankari project. We used cool Kota stone flooring, a simple color palette with a pop of yellow, and a bay window seat to create a comfortable and grounded personal space that feels both modern and timeless.
About this collection
When we select materials like Kota stone or exposed brick, we are not just following a trend. We are conducting a study on how these textures age, breathe, and interact with the specific climate of your plot in Bengaluru. This ensures that your home remains thermally comfortable and grounded, regardless of the size or orientation of your site.
Our Design Philosophy: Indian Modern
Our approach is built on the belief that a home should reflect the culture of its inhabitants while providing the comforts of modern life. We avoid the 'patchwork' design often seen in contemporary architecture. Instead, we ensure the building envelope and the interior flow are conceptualized together from day one.
Working with Natural Materials
We prioritize materials that have a tactile quality. You will often find our projects featuring:
- Kota and Jaisalmer Stone: Used for their thermal properties and timeless aesthetic.
- Athangudi Tiles: Handcrafted pieces that add a vibrant, cultural layer to flooring.
- Exposed Brick: Used for structural honesty and texture.
- Cane and Wood: Integrated into false ceilings and joinery to bring warmth into the living spaces.
Designing for Light and Space
Bengaluru plots often present challenges with tight setbacks. We address this by manipulating volume rather than just footprint. Through the use of double-height ceilings, central courtyards, and strategic skylights, we ensure every corner of the house receives natural daylight. We believe that a space that breathes is a space that lives. Whether it is a kitchen opening out to a garden or a staircase designed as a sculptural light well, we focus on connecting the indoors to the outdoors seamlessly.
Design Matters Architects
I am Kiran Hanumaiah. I started Design Matters to prove that modern homes do not have to be cold or impersonal. When you work with us, you are not just getting blueprints; you are getting a team that cares about how your home feels on a Sunday morning just as much as how it looks.
