About Rooftop Sanctuaries: The Terra Gardens Penthouse
We do not just add furniture to a roof. For the Terra Gardens project, we prioritized structural load management—using lightweight, nutrient-rich soil mixes to support the lush tropical foliage—while ensuring the custom-fabricated MS pergola provided shade without feeling heavy or enclosed. This attention to what lies beneath the design allows the space to truly breathe.
The challenge with a penthouse terrace is balancing functionality with the environmental constraints of an urban rooftop. At Pride Picassa in Indiranagar, our approach was to create a fluid, multi-zoned living area that feels like an extension of the indoor home. We moved away from the typical 'styled garden' look, choosing instead to sculpt the space into distinct, purposeful zones.
The gathering area is anchored by curved, masonry-built sofas, designed to flow with the terrace’s architecture. By using weather-resistant, non-fading fabrics and custom-finished surfaces, we ensured the space remains usable year-round despite Bengaluru's unpredictable weather.
The gourmet zone is a study in material selection. We fabricated a monolithic kitchen island from sandalwood traver onyx, paired with stainless steel framing to withstand outdoor conditions. It serves as both a social hub and a functional workspace. We believe in the power of light to shift a space’s mood; hence, our lighting design is integral. From hidden LEDs under benches to the custom-designed pendants, the lighting is programmed to transition the terrace from a bright, breezy daytime lounge to an intimate, dramatic garden of lights once the sun sets.
Finally, the spa nook provides the necessary retreat. By integrating a jacuzzi with cantilevered stone decking and surrounding it with lush monstera and palms, we ensured a sense of privacy. This project demonstrates our core belief: outdoor spaces should not be secondary. They should be sanctuaries where you can switch off.
