My Journey: Why I Choose Trust Over Control

I didn't start my career in a classroom. I started it with a rescue dog who taught me that behavior isn't about commands, but about the bond you share. Here is the story behind why I do what I do.

An unpopular opinion: I don't believe in using an adult dog to "correct" a puppy. It's risky for both dogs and doesn't teach the puppy the right skills.

Instead of letting dogs "figure it out," I teach puppies to ignore other dogs from a safe distance. This teaches them neutrality and prevents reactivity from developing.

A client asks for the definition of socialization. My response clarifies that it's about creating a database of positive experiences, but I would never put a well-behaved dog off-leash with an unsocialized puppy.

This screenshot shows my direct advice: putting an off-leash dog with a puppy who has missed their socialization window is not going to help either dog.

Understanding your dog's body language is the most basic and essential skill for any pet parent. Here, I'm reading Phoebe's stress signals during a blow-dry and giving her a break.

Urban life is stressful for our dogs. I always encourage my clients to plan a weekly activity, like a hike or a swim, to let their dogs decompress and just be dogs.

About My Journey and Why I Can Help

When you work with me, you aren't hiring a trainer to fix a machine. You are partnering with someone who knows exactly how heavy it feels to have a dog who is scared of the world, because I’ve been the person on the other end of that leash. My approach, rooted in 10 years of behavioral science and trial and error, is about teaching your dog to be neutral in a city that’s constantly overstimulating them, rather than forcing them into submission.
