About Sacred Spaces: Modern Pooja Rooms
I do not believe in building a heavy cabinet and calling it a mandir. Instead, I focus on the geometry of your space. Whether we use a carved wooden mandala backdrop to anchor the wall or discrete, warm-toned LED profiles to illuminate your deities, every detail is planned to keep your prayer essentials organized and out of sight. My approach ensures your pooja unit remains a serene, clutter-free sanctuary that fits seamlessly into your living room or foyer layout, rather than feeling like an afterthought.
Designing Your Spiritual Sanctuary
A pooja room should feel like a pause in your day. Most homeowners struggle with balancing traditional rituals with the limited space of modern apartments, which is where my approach differs—we focus on creating dedicated zones that respect tradition without cluttering your floor plan.
Materials & Craftsmanship
I typically use boiling water-resistant plywood for the carcass because these areas often see daily incense, diya oil, and cleaning. For finishes, I prefer matte laminates or veneer accents that age gracefully. We often incorporate CNC-cut backdrops or frosted glass partitions to delineate the area, giving you privacy for prayer while keeping the home aesthetic open.
Practical Design Elements
- Lighting: We move away from harsh, flat lighting. Instead, we use concealed profile lights and warm COB spots that highlight the idols and create a meditative glow.
- Storage: This is essential but often overlooked. I design hidden drawers for your prayer books, copper vessels, and incense supplies so the surface remains clean and focused.
- Layout: Whether you need a full-wall unit or a compact, wall-mounted mandir, we plan for the electrical points early on so you are not left with dangling wires for your lamps.
Let’s create a space that feels right for you, whether you are in a sprawling villa or a cozy apartment in Bangalore or Hyderabad.
