About Contemporary Lehengas & Skirt Sets
One of the most frequent concerns with lehengas is that they feel heavy and restrictive. My solution is to replace traditional, cumbersome padding with internal corset boning. This provides the necessary structural support and shape while keeping the garment surprisingly lightweight. You gain the refined silhouette of a traditional lehenga without the weight, ensuring you stay comfortable and can move freely during the celebration.
Designing for the modern Indian woman means reimagining the boundaries of traditional occasion wear. My focus is on silhouettes that offer freedom of movement and a clean, sharp aesthetic. Instead of massive, heavy can-can layers, I prioritize fluid fabrics like organza, crepe, and viscose satin that drape naturally over the body.
Technique and Detail
My approach centers on precise placement embroidery rather than all-over heavy work. You will find intricate detailing along necklines, cuffs, and hemlines using Swarovski crystals, glass beads, and mirror work. This provides the shimmer you want for a festive event without the stiffness of old-school heavy embroidery.
The Blouse
The blouse is the centerpiece of these sets. I utilize internal boning and padding to ensure a secure, flattering fit. Whether it is a sweetheart neckline or a structured corset design, the goal is to create a garment that feels like a second skin.
