Building Our Imagination Havens: Transformative Library Projects
We transform neglected spaces into vibrant, healing sanctuaries where children can rediscover the power of stories and dream beyond their current circumstances.
This is where a new chapter begins. With the support of our partners, we are turning this empty, broken space in Mumbai into a beautiful new library for sixty-five girls rescued from the streets, child labor, and trafficking.
Every great library starts with a little dust and a lot of dreams. Thanks to the generosity of Soba Cares, we are building something truly special here. These shelves will soon hold stories that heal, inspire, and empower.
The transformation is underway. Carpenters and painters are hard at work turning this blank canvas into a colorful sanctuary. This is just the beginning of a new 'Imagination Haven' for children in need.
The "before" photo of our most ambitious project. We converted this old shipping container into India’s first storytelling shipping container library, "The Library of Journeys," thanks to the vision of many, including architect Aboli Badhan.
From a simple classroom to our 'Sea of Stories' library. This transformation shows how we create a haven for imagination, connection, and hope, especially for children who are deaf and mute, where stories come alive through visuals and expression.
The moment a dream becomes reality. Our founder, Seena Jacob, cuts the ribbon at the opening of 'The Library of Flowers' in Mumbai, a safe haven for 65 brave girls. This was made possible by the unwavering support of Soba Cares.
The joy is palpable. During the inauguration of 'The Library of Flowers', the girls' excitement was a beautiful sight. For many, this is their first-ever access to a world of stories and possibilities.
Lost in a new world. Children eagerly explore the brand-new books at 'The Library of Flowers'. This space is designed to help them dream beyond their circumstances and find solace in the pages of a book.
A quiet moment of discovery. A young girl browses the freshly stocked shelves of 'The Library of Flowers'. Each book is a doorway to a new adventure and a step on the journey of healing.
Reading together in their new safe haven. The 'Library of Flowers' provides a comfortable and inspiring environment for girls to connect with stories and with each other.
About Building Our Imagination Havens
We handle the entire structural transition from empty rooms to fully equipped learning sanctuaries. Whether it is installing child-safe flooring, mounting custom bookshelves, or curating regional language libraries, our teams manage every logistical hurdle so your CSR contribution creates an immediate, visible impact on the ground.
Our 'Imagination Havens' are the heart of what we do. We believe that a physical space can influence a child's mental state—moving from a neglected, cluttered room to a bright, organized library signals to a child that their environment matters, and by extension, that they matter.
The Transformation Process
When we partner with your team, we don't just hand over a report. We work together on the physical creation of these spaces.
- Space Preparation: From clearing out old inventory to painting murals, this is where your team’s hands-on effort begins.
- Infrastructure: We install child-safe furniture, bean bags, and custom-built shelving designed for accessibility.
- Inventory Curation: We don't just stack random books. We stock 500+ titles, including regional language books and therapeutic stories, ensuring every child finds a narrative they can relate to.
Why It Matters
For children in shelters, orphanages, or rescue homes, these havens provide consistency in an unpredictable life. When a corporate team spends a day painting, organizing, or reading, it leaves a permanent marker of care. We have seen these 'Before and After' transformations significantly boost attendance in our weekly storytelling sessions, as children feel a sense of ownership over their new space.
Whether you are looking for a one-day mural painting activity in Mumbai or a full-scale library adoption in Bangalore, we provide the end-to-end support to make it happen. You get a tangible project, and the children get a permanent sanctuary for their imagination.
Bookwallah
I started Bookwallah because stories were my own escape during a difficult childhood. We build these Imagination Havens to give children that same safe space, and we would love for your team to help us bring these rooms to life.
