Our Achievements: From First Draft to Published Work
Writing is a solitary act, but getting your work into the world is a community effort. Here is how we celebrate and support our writers in their journey toward publication.
A proud moment for our whole community. Here I am on stage at the Bengaluru Poetry Festival, launching 'The BWW Book of Emerging Poets,' which features work from our talented writers. We don't just talk about writing; we work towards getting your stories published and heard.
As a mentor, I believe in practicing what I preach. I was so happy to have my story 'Fidelity' published in the international magazine 'A Coup of Owls.' This experience helps me guide my writers through the challenges and joys of getting their own work published.
BWW on AIR. It was an honor to be interviewed on All India Radio to talk about the history and achievements of Bangalore Writers Workshop. Spreading the word about our amazing community of writers is something I am deeply passionate about.
A closer look at the announcement for my story 'Fidelity.' Being part of the literary world as a published author myself gives me firsthand insight into the submission and editing process, which I share openly with all my students.
About Our Achievements
Getting published isn't just about luck. It is about understanding the submission process, finding the right literary homes for your stories, and having the courage to put your work out there. When I teach, I bring the exact same feedback loop I use for my own writing—like the process behind my story 'Fidelity'—ensuring you learn to edit with a professional eye before you ever hit 'send' on a submission.
Our focus on achievement is practical rather than prestigious. When we launched 'The BWW Book of Emerging Poets' at the Bengaluru Poetry Festival, it wasn't just about adding a title to our list; it was about giving our writers the tangible proof of their growth.
My own experience navigating the publishing world—from getting work featured in The Bombay Literary Magazine to speaking about our community on All India Radio—directly informs how I mentor you. I don't give generic advice. I walk you through the reality of rejection, the nuance of editing, and the persistence required to see your name in print.
Whether you are working on a short story, a collection of poems, or a complex manuscript, my goal is to help you bridge the gap between 'I want to write' and 'I am a published author.' We treat every workshop session as a step toward that finish line, providing the accountability and rigorous critique you need to actually finish what you start.
