Premium Soil Mix, Fertilizers & Plant Health Essentials
Stop guessing with your plants. Whether you need the perfect soil mix, organic boosters, or pest solutions, we have the exact products to help your garden thrive, just like our happy customers.
The perfect soil mix is key to a healthy plant. My recommended basic mix is one-third cocopeat for moisture retention, one-third vermicompost for nutrients, and one-third garden soil. This balanced mixture prevents both overwatering and underwatering, which are the main reasons plants die.
Cocopeat is an essential part of any good soil mix because it retains moisture. When buying, always choose low EC (low salt) cocopeat from a trusted source. I offer high-quality, ready-to-use low EC cocopeat in 2kg and 5kg bags, as well as 5kg bricks.
Vermicompost, or earthworm castings, is a highly nutritious organic manure that is essential for healthy soil. I stock pure, high-quality vermicompost without any mixing. Be careful of cheap alternatives that are often mixed with cow dung and can harm your plants.
Perlite and vermiculite are two key soil additives for healthy roots. Perlite, the white substance, helps regulate moisture by absorbing excess water and releasing it when the soil is dry. Vermiculite absorbs nutrients from your fertilizer and releases them slowly, providing a steady food supply for your plant.
Bone meal and neem khal (cake) are two powerful organic fertilizers. For a 12-inch pot, I recommend mixing half a bowl of each and working it into the soil. This combination boosts plant growth and greenery, and is especially beneficial during the rainy season.
Sarso khal, or mustard cake, is a unique fertilizer that provides warmth to plants, making it ideal for use during the winter. The correct way to use it is to soak it in water for a week to let it decompose, then dilute the liquid and feed it to your plants.
C-Secret is an organic seaweed-based fertilizer that works wonders for plant health. It boosts immunity, strengthens the root and stem systems, and makes your plants more resistant to pests. Simply mix the required quantity in water and spray it on your plants for amazing results.
If your plants are not flowering or producing fruit, IFFCO's Flora Diet is the easy solution. This liquid fertilizer is specially formulated to promote blooming and fruiting. Just use as directed, and you will see a significant improvement in your plant's performance.
DAP is an inorganic, granular fertilizer containing NPK nutrients that can give your plants a quick boost. However, it must be used very carefully. Using too much can burn or even kill your plants, so always follow the instructions and use it in small quantities.
I stock a wide variety of fertilizers to meet every plant's needs. This video gives an overview of different types, including DAP, an inorganic fertilizer that provides a quick nutrient boost. It's important to understand how to use each type correctly for the best results.
About Soil, Fertilizers & Plant Health
A common mistake I see is buying cheap, mixed vermicompost. At Balaji Nursery, I only supply pure, unmixed earthworm castings that actually nourish your roots. For the perfect foundation, follow my golden ratio: mix 33% cocopeat, 33% vermicompost, and 33% garden soil. This specific balance prevents both root rot and soil drying, which are the two biggest reasons plants fail at home.
Gardening shouldn't be a headache. If you are struggling with your plants, the problem is almost always in the foundation—your soil mix.
Why Quality Matters
Most people buy the cheapest soil mix they can find, but it's often bulked up with sand or poor-quality organic waste. When you buy from me, you are getting the same inputs I use in my nursery.
- Cocopeat: Always choose low-EC (low salt) cocopeat. It holds moisture without the harsh salts that burn tender roots.
- Perlite vs. Vermiculite: Use Perlite if your soil stays soggy (it adds air). Use Vermiculite if your soil dries out too fast (it holds onto nutrients).
Feeding Your Plants
I stock a range of solutions, from organic boosters to heavy-duty needs:
- Organic Boost: My go-to is Seaweed-based C-Secret. It strengthens the immune system and makes plants more resistant to pest attacks like mealybugs. For a blooming boost, try IFFCO's Flora Diet.
- The Winter Trick: Mustard cake (Sarso Khal) is excellent, but never use it raw. Soak it in water for a week, let it decompose, and then dilute it. This gives plants the 'warmth' they need during winter months.
- Heavy Duty: We have DAP for a quick nutrient boost, but handle it with care—use sparingly to avoid burning the roots.
Problem Solving
Don't let mealybugs or root rot take over your balcony. I keep ready-to-use sprays and organic neem oil on hand because prevention is always better than cure. If you aren't sure what to mix or how much to feed, just ask. I'm here to make sure your green space stays green.
