I transform simple MDF boards into textured craters and canyons, turning your walls into a piece of the night sky. These lamps don't just hang there; they glow with a warm, celestial light that brings a bit of magic into your living room.

The finished Mars lamp, glowing with its integrated LED backlight. The light catches the textured craters and canyons, creating a warm and dramatic effect. This piece is a conversation starter.

A close-up of the finished Mars lamp before the lighting is installed. You can see the rich, layered colors and the detailed texture work that mimics the Martian surface, all set within a sleek black frame.

This is part one of the Mars lamp creation. I start by applying a thick layer of texture paste to an MDF base, then use tools to sculpt the craters, valleys, and plains of the planet's surface.

Part two shows the painting process. I use various shades of acrylic paint to bring the textured surface to life, adding depth and shadow to create a realistic depiction of Mars before sealing it.

About this collection

I build every lamp on a sturdy 12mm MDF base, applying layers of texture paste to mimic the rugged surface of the Moon or Mars. Once that’s sculpted and painted with matte acrylics, I install an integrated LED halo on the back. This isn't just a print; it’s a tactile, sculptural piece that looks like a high-end art installation when the lights go down.

When I started making these lamps, I wanted to capture more than just a picture of the planets. I wanted to capture the feeling of looking up at the night sky.

How I Build Your Piece

Every piece begins with a raw MDF circle. I use a palette knife to lay down the texture paste, freehand sculpting the craters, valleys, and plains based on the specific planetary theme. Whether it’s the grey, dusty look of the Moon or the rusted, jagged canyons of Mars, the depth you see in the photos is the result of layering and hand-tooling the paste until it feels right.

The Lighting Tech

After the texture dries and I finish the painting with acrylics, I mount the LED strip on the reverse side. I use 12V adapters to ensure the glow is consistent and soft, creating that halo effect that highlights the 3D ridges. Because I build these from scratch, I can adjust the framing and the finish to suit your wall color or existing decor.

Customization

These are not mass-produced. If you have a specific size in mind or want a custom texture pattern—perhaps inspired by a specific region on the Moon—just let me know. I also create these as mirrors, which is a great way to combine the celestial aesthetic with something functional for your hallway or bedroom. Each lamp comes with the power adapter and a heavy-duty hook installed, so it is ready to hang the moment it reaches you.

I’m Kshama. I used to spend my days staring at spreadsheets as a CA, but I traded the calculator for a palette knife because I wanted to create art that actually makes you feel something. These lamps are some of my favorite pieces to build because I get to play with light and shadows until the surface looks just like the real thing.
