Personalized Leaf Portraits: Hand-Carved Peepal Art
Turning a simple Peepal leaf into a permanent memory. Every portrait is hand-carved with patience, designed to glow when held against the light.
This is a close-up of a highly detailed portrait I carved. By carefully working with the leaf's delicate structure, I can achieve a textured, almost photorealistic effect that makes for a very special personalized gift.
This video shows the detailed portrait leaf art from different angles. You can see how the light interacts with the intricate cuts, highlighting the features of the face against the natural backdrop.
Here is another style of leaf portrait I offer, which uses clean lines to create a clear and striking image. This is a great option for a simpler, more graphic custom portrait.
This video shows one of my practice sessions for a line-art style portrait. Every piece is a result of continuous effort and practice to perfect my technique and deliver the best possible artwork.
About Personalized Leaf Portraits
These aren't prints. I hand-carve your photo onto a treated Peepal leaf using a scalpel. It takes about 5-7 days to finish because every vein and line needs real focus. Your final piece comes ready to display inside a double-glass floating frame, which keeps the delicate leaf safe while making it look like it's suspended in air.
The process starts with selecting a healthy Peepal leaf, which I treat and cure so it doesn't decay. Once the leaf is prepped, I map out the portrait. Because I am cutting into organic material, I can't undo a mistake. It is a slow, rhythmic process of removing the leaf tissue while keeping the vein structure intact to hold the design together.
Why a Leaf Portrait?
It is a different kind of art. When you hang it or hold it up to a window, the light passes through the negative space, creating a shadow-play effect that a standard paper print can't match. It is a quiet, natural way to preserve a memory.
Practical Details
- Subject: Due to the size of the leaf, I focus on a single face per piece.
- Durability: The leaf is treated and sealed, then protected between two glass panes. It won't turn brittle if kept away from direct heat and moisture.
- Timeline: Since this is 100% manual labor, please plan for a 5-7 day lead time from the day we finalize the photo.
If you have a photo of a loved one, a child, or even a deity, send it over. We can discuss if the image has enough contrast for me to carve it properly.
