This is a curated look into the core of our practice. These projects represent our thoughtful approach to weaving together light, material, and space to create environments that are not just built, but are felt and lived in. From private homes that act as sanctuaries to large-scale public institutions, each design tells a story of place and purpose.
Residential Sanctuaries
We design homes as slow, thoughtful places that grow with the people who live in them. Our focus is on creating personal sanctuaries that are comfortable and lasting, using natural light and honest materials to shape spaces where you can simply be.
Public & Cultural Architecture
We design public spaces that serve the community, from large-scale museums to intimate places of worship. Our approach is to create buildings that are not just containers for activity, but are meaningful destinations that engage with their urban context and the people who use them.
Commercial & Hospitality Spaces
We design commercial and hospitality projects that have a strong and distinct identity, from large-scale breweries to intimate cafes and studios. Our focus is on creating atmospheric and functional environments that enhance the customer experience and become memorable parts of the city's social fabric.
Adaptive Reuse & Conservation
We believe the most sustainable building is one that already exists. This collection showcases our work in breathing new life into old structures, from 18th-century heritage homes to 1980s office buildings, respectfully adapting them for contemporary use while preserving their stories.
The Craft of Making: Light, Material & Process
Architecture for us is a slow and thoughtful process, rooted in the honesty of materials and the elemental power of light. This collection offers a look behind the scenes at our design process, from initial sketches and models to work-in-progress shots that celebrate the craft of construction.
Community & Pro-Bono Work
We believe architecture has a role to play in serving the wider community. This section highlights our pro-bono projects, from the restoration of a public school to conceptual proposals for urban landmarks and mobile classrooms for underserved children.
In the Press & On the Stage
Our work and design philosophy have been fortunate to be featured in leading publications and recognized with awards. This section includes a selection of articles, features, and photos from lectures and events where we have shared our thoughts on architecture.
The People Behind the Practice
Mathew and Ghosh Architects is a collaborative, multidirectional practice led by partners Nisha Mathew and Soumitro Ghosh. We believe that architecture is a human endeavor, and this is a brief introduction to the people who lead the thoughtful process behind every project.
