Smart Wardrobes and Cabinet Designs in Mumbai
Living in Mumbai means making every inch of your storage count. I focus on clever hardware and custom layouts to turn standard closets into highly functional, efficient spaces.
This L-shaped wardrobe demonstrates how to efficiently use corner space. We used wide-angle hinges that allow the doors to open fully, providing unobstructed access to the shelves and drawers inside.
The "Magic Corner" is one of the best hardware hacks for utilizing awkward L-shaped kitchen corners. This pull-out system brings the entire contents of the corner cabinet out for easy access.
Pocket doors are an excellent space-saving solution for open-plan areas or studio kitchens. As seen here at the Hafele display center, the doors slide back into a "pocket," keeping walkways clear when the kitchen is in use.
We often incorporate smart accessories to maximize wardrobe organization. This video shows how we use pull-out mesh baskets and trouser hangers from IKEA to create designated, easy-to-access storage for clothes.
Planning for wardrobe accessories in advance is key. This showcase features high-end pull-outs for trousers, shoes, and accessories, which come in standard sizes and need to be factored into the initial wardrobe design.
In this bedroom, we used sliding wardrobes with mirrored panels. This not only saves the space required for swing doors but also makes the room feel larger and brighter by reflecting light.
A wardrobe can also be a piece of art. For this ongoing project, we designed a sliding wardrobe with a beautiful custom-printed laminate, turning a functional storage unit into a stunning feature wall.
About Smart Wardrobes & Cabinets
I often see people struggling with dead corners in their wardrobes. Instead of leaving them as dark, unreachable spots, I use wide-angle hinges that allow doors to open up to 165 degrees. It turns a frustrating corner into a functional space where you can actually see and reach your clothes without having to rummage around.
Planning for storage is about more than just how it looks. When we design wardrobes, we start by looking at the hardware basics. Many people don't realize that standard accessories like trouser pull-outs or shoe trays come in fixed sizes, usually 600mm or 900mm. If you wait until the last minute to decide on these, they simply won't fit your layout. That is why I always recommend picking your accessories before we finalize the cabinet blueprints.
For tight spaces, I like to use specific mechanics to change how a room feels. Pocket doors are brilliant for studio apartments because they tuck completely out of the way, keeping your walkway clear. For larger runs of cupboards, we can even treat the wardrobe as an art wall, using custom-printed laminates that blend into the room's decor so the storage feels like a seamless part of the architecture rather than a bulky box.
Whether it is installing a Magic Corner in a kitchen or a sliding wardrobe with mirrored panels to bounce light around a small bedroom, the goal is always the same. We want to eliminate visual clutter while making sure every drawer and shelf is easy to access. If you are worried about uneven walls or beams, we can even drop the ceiling to hide those imperfections while adding extra storage lofts. It is about getting the engineering right so you can focus on organizing your life, not your furniture.
