Innovative Space-Saving Designs for Compact Homes
I believe Mumbai homes should feel like a sanctuary, not a puzzle. From Murphy beds that hide in plain sight to rotating TV units, these are my favorite ways to make every square foot work harder for you.
A before-and-after look at how we converted a small, unused room into a multi-utility space. By breaking a wall and installing full-height sliding partitions and a Murphy bed, the area now functions as an extension of the living room, a guest bedroom, a home office, and a pooja room.
For this master bedroom, the client wanted to watch TV from both the bed and a separate seating area. We designed and built this custom rotating TV panel that swivels 180 degrees, a perfect solution for multi-zone rooms.
Here’s a fun solution for a modern office: a completely hidden pantry. The seamless folding doors conceal a fully functional kitchenette with a microwave, coffee machine, and sink, keeping the workspace clean and uncluttered.
In this kitchen, we combined a small bathroom to create more space and added a custom-designed folding breakfast table. It flushes with the cabinets when not in use, providing a prep or dining surface without permanently occupying floor space.
Shoe storage is a common challenge, so we converted an unused doorway into a full-height hidden shoe rack. The cabinet doors are camouflaged with wall moulding to match the surrounding panels, making the storage completely seamless.
L-shaped wardrobes often have hard-to-reach corners. We solve this by using wide-angle hinges that allow the doors to open up to 180 degrees, giving you full, comfortable access to the entire corner storage space.
Watch the transformation of this living area from a standard empty room to a vibrant, functional space. The design incorporates a convertible guest room, a textured stone veneer TV wall, and a cohesive color palette.
I am honored to receive the India Design Award for Best Chic and Elegant Luxury Residences. This recognition is a credit to my entire team and the wonderful clients who trust us with their homes.
About Featured
The biggest mistake I see in compact layouts is prioritizing the look over the hardware. Whether you are installing a Murphy bed or a rotating TV unit, the quality of the hinge or hydraulic mechanism is the difference between a smooth daily experience and a frustrating one. In my projects, I do not just pick a design. I test the mechanism until it feels effortless, even in the tightest corners.
Making a home feel big in Mumbai is a challenge I genuinely enjoy. When you have a 2.5 BHK and the half room is practically unusable, the solution isn't just to fill it with furniture. It is about rethinking the flow. I often break walls and combine zones to create multi-utility spaces that can shift from a guest bedroom to a home office or a pooja room within minutes.
My design philosophy centers on hidden functionality. If you look at a wall, you should see a clean feature, not a dozen handles. This means using 165-degree wide-angle hinges for L-shaped wardrobes to ensure you can reach every corner, or building floor-to-ceiling hydraulic bed units that look like elegant paneling when folded away.
I also focus heavily on the 'dead' zones. That awkward pillar in your kitchen? That is where we build a breakfast counter that folds flat. That unused doorway? That becomes a deep, seamless shoe rack. My team and I get into the technical weeds because that is where the magic happens. We use marine-grade plywood and edge banding to make sure these transforming units survive the Mumbai humidity and daily wear. If you are struggling with a layout that feels cramped, let's look at it together. We might find that you have more room than you think.
