My Journey as a Practicing Advocate

A law degree provides the foundation, but courtrooms teach the reality. These glimpses from my practice across the Supreme Court and various High Courts form the basis of the practical training I offer.

Holding case files on the steps of the Supreme Court. Every case presents a unique challenge and an opportunity to learn, a principle I carry into my teaching.

Here I am at the entrance of the High Court of Uttarakhand in Nainital. Practicing in different jurisdictions broadens my understanding of the legal system across the country.

About My Journey as a Practicing Advocate

My teaching approach is not theoretical. When I teach drafting or court procedure, I pull from actual cases I have handled in places like the Nainital High Court or the Supreme Court of India. Students often find that textbook law fails to address the obstacles they encounter, such as dealing with unexpected bail procedures or complex real estate litigation. My goal is to bridge that gap by showing you how the law actually functions in the daily grind of a busy advocate.

After more than two decades in the legal profession, I have learned that the law is not just about what is written in statutes, but how those laws are argued and applied in a courtroom. My journey has taken me from the corridors of the Delhi High Court to the judicial complexes of Dharamshala and the High Courts in Jaipur and Uttarakhand. Each appearance has been a masterclass in procedure, negotiation, and strategy.

I share these experiences to help you avoid the pitfalls that many first-generation lawyers face. When we look at a legal notice or a bail application in my courses, we are not just looking at a template. We are examining why a specific clause works, what a judge expects to see, and how to present your case clearly.

My mentorship focuses on:

  • Courtroom Strategy: Understanding the rhythm of a hearing and how to present your arguments effectively.
  • Procedural Realities: Getting comfortable with filing, appearances, and the 'do's and don'ts' of interacting with court staff.
  • Career Navigation: Making informed choices between civil, criminal, and corporate litigation based on real-world practice.

The goal is to move beyond the degree and build the 'skill set' that defines a successful advocate. Whether you are struggling with a drafting task or planning your path as a junior practitioner, the insights I share are meant to give you a clearer direction.
