Mastering Floral & Gulf Henna Styles in Mumbai
Gulf henna is all about bold flowers, negative space, and beautiful shading. If you have ever wondered how to get that perfect three-dimensional hibiscus look, this is where we start.
This video shows the application of a modern hibiscus flower, a key element in many Gulf-style designs. I focus on creating bold outlines and delicate shading to make the flower look three dimensional.
The beautiful henna stain of the hibiscus design after the paste has been removed. Learning how to get a deep, rich color like this is a key part of my course.
The fresh paste of the hibiscus design. Notice the clean lines and the contrast between the filled-in leaves and the delicate flower petals.
A close up of the finger work for the hibiscus design. I teach how to create detailed, complementary patterns on the fingers that complete the overall look of the hand.
A modern take on mehendi with a cascade of interlocking hearts. This is a fun, quick design to learn and is perfect for parties and casual events.
About Mastering Floral & Gulf Styles
Gulf style is not just about drawing a flower, it is about how you hold your cone to get the pressure just right. In my sessions, we focus on 'cone control' because that is the secret behind those smooth, dark hibiscus petals you see in the photos. Without mastering this pressure, the lines often look messy instead of clean.
Gulf henna is famous for its clean, modern look. Unlike the heavily intricate Indian bridal designs, these patterns rely on negative space and bold, flowing vines. I teach my students to focus on the 'flow' of hibiscus and lotus motifs. We start with basic pressure exercises because, honestly, if your hand shakes, the petals will not look three-dimensional.
Once you master the outlines, we move to shading techniques that give the henna that depth. I also teach 'mixology'—getting the right consistency in your henna paste so the stain turns dark and rich. Whether you are in Kurla, Govandi, or joining my online batches from elsewhere, the process is the same: lots of practice on paper before we ever touch the skin.
Learning these styles takes patience, but I promise the result is worth the 'mehnat'. If you are looking to level up your henna game or start from scratch, my workshops cover the full cycle from holding the cone to sealing your final design.
