Your Hair Transplant Journey: Growth Timeline & Care
The procedure is just the start. Here is exactly how your hair grows back and how to look after it for the best results.
Taking care of your hair after a transplant is crucial for the best results. This infographic provides key tips, such as gentle hair washing and avoiding vigorous exercise, swimming, and wearing hats in the initial period.
This video explains the hair growth timeline after a transplant. I discuss the different stages, from the initial shedding phase to the final 90 to 100 percent growth, comparing traditional techniques with our faster Instant FUE method.
About After Your Transplant: Care and Growth Timeline
Patients often worry when the newly transplanted hair sheds in the first few weeks. Think of it as a plant being moved to a new pot; the root settles in first, then the growth follows. My team provides a specific care kit and a 5-day post-op plan, including how to use saline spray, so we ensure your grafts stay secure while they transition into that new growth phase.
Understanding Your Growth Timeline
Many patients ask, 'When will I see the full results?' It is a journey, not an overnight fix. With our Instant FUE technique, we minimize the time grafts spend outside the scalp, which often leads to faster stabilization, but the biology of hair growth remains consistent.
- 0-3 Months: This is the shedding phase. The hair we planted falls off. Do not panic; this is normal. The root is under the skin, preparing to sprout.
- 3-4 Months: You will see about 10% of your new hair emerging. It will be thin and fine.
- 5-6 Months: Growth picks up to 20-25%. You will start noticing real density changes in the mirror.
- 6-8 Months: This is the magic window where 30-40% of growth occurs. If you used Instant FUE, many patients see up to 70% results by this stage.
- 8-12 Months: The final push. By the end of the year, you should see 70-80% of your final density.
- 12-15 Months: The final maturation phase where 90-100% of the growth is visible.
Essential Post-Op Care
Your actions in the first two weeks dictate your success.
- Sleeping Position: Keep your head elevated at 45 degrees for the first 3 nights to prevent swelling. Use the neck pillow we provide.
- The First Wash: We perform the first wash at our Andheri clinic on Day 5. After that, follow the instructions carefully—use a gentle cup-pour method. No direct shower pressure for 14 days.
- Exercise and Sweat: Avoid heavy gym sessions, swimming, or running for at least 2 weeks. Sweat can irritate the scalp and disturb the grafts.
- No Hats: Keep the scalp exposed to air. Avoid wearing caps or helmets, as friction can pull out fragile grafts.
If you have any doubts, just send me a photo on WhatsApp. My team will review it and tell you exactly what stage you are at.
