Foundations and Philosophy of Yoga
Yoga is a journey deeper than the physical asana. Build your practice on a solid base of technique, breath, and ancient wisdom with our structured approach.
This video introduces Kharasanam, or Donkey Posture, a new asana from the Himalayan Saint Yogī Bhāratīdūta. It demonstrates how the tradition of yoga is a living, evolving wisdom, and I provide a detailed breakdown of how to practice this foundational pose.
This collage shows the progressive stages of Vasisthasana, or Side Plank. Our training focuses on breaking down poses like this, so you can practice and teach them safely, from the basic form to the full expression.
A demonstration of Sethubandhasana, or Bridge Pose. This is a foundational backbend that strengthens the glutes and hamstrings while opening the chest. We focus on mastering such key poses before moving to more complex variations.
"There is no path to happiness; happiness is the path." This quote from the Buddha, paired with this deep forward bend, reminds us that the practice itself is the destination. My son's playful appearance is a reminder to find joy in the moment.
Padmasana, the Thirukkural, and my yoga mat. This image represents the three pillars of my practice: the physical asana, the philosophical wisdom from ancient texts, and the dedicated space for practice.
About this collection
Many students rush into advanced postures before understanding the internal mechanics. In our training, we focus heavily on safe, effective alignment—using props like wall ropes or specific hand placements—so you actually feel the purpose of each posture rather than just mimicking a shape. It is about understanding the 'why' behind the 'how'.
The Science of Practice
True progress in yoga requires more than just flexibility. It requires an understanding of how the body moves and why the mind resists. In our 200-hour certification, we break down foundational poses—from Vasisthasana to Sethubandhasana—into their functional components. We teach you how to analyze anatomy, use props to build confidence, and adjust safely, ensuring you can guide others with precision.
Living Philosophy
Philosophy isn't just about reading the Sutras; it is about living them. We integrate Patanjali’s wisdom and texts like the Thirukkural into our daily practice. Whether we are discussing ahaara paddati (dietary discipline) or exploring the meaning of a pose, the goal is to shift your perspective from simple movement to mindful living.
Why Foundations Matter
- Safety First: You learn to identify limitations and work with them, not against them.
- Depth Over Surface: We move beyond the pose to look at the breath, the intent, and the nervous system.
- Evolving Wisdom: We respect the traditional path but acknowledge that yoga is a living, evolving science. You will learn to teach in a way that respects ancient roots while being relevant to the modern student.
Whether you are an aspiring teacher or a practitioner looking to deepen your personal journey, this training provides the technical clarity and philosophical depth to sustain your practice for a lifetime.
