Expert Hair Care Advice for Healthy Styling
I'm here to cut through the marketing noise about hair extensions. Let's talk about what's actually safe for your hair and what you should avoid.
I'm often asked about permanent hair extensions. To be honest, they aren't for everyone. In this video, I explain why you should avoid them if you have very thin hair or weak roots, especially on the top of your head. I always suggest safer, non-damaging options like clip-ons or toppers first.
About My Expert Advice
If your natural hair density is already low, permanent extensions can often do more harm than good by pulling on weak roots. My advice is simple: prioritize the health of your scalp before adding weight, or you might end up with more hair fall than when you started.
There is a massive amount of pressure to have perfect hair, but I see the aftermath every day at the salon. When I advise against permanent extensions like micro rings or tape-ins, it is because I am looking at the bigger picture. If your roots are already struggling, adding extra weight will only lead to traction alopecia. Permanent options are great for some, but they are not the default choice for everyone.
I prefer to start with non-surgical solutions like scalp toppers or clip-in extensions. They give you the volume and length you want without the permanent tension on your follicles. My approach is always to preserve what you have. Whether you are dealing with thinning hair at the crown, postpartum hair fall, or you are a chemo survivor, the solution has to be comfortable and non-damaging. We do not use glue or heat that can compromise your natural hair. If you are unsure about what fits your hair type, reach out. We can discuss whether you need a specific topper, a clip-in set for an event, or just a routine to help your hair grow stronger. Your hair is an asset, not just an accessory.
