The Creative Process: How We Build Your Original Song
Ever wonder how a fleeting thought turns into a song you can actually listen to? It is not just magic—it is a process. Whether you have a full journal or just a single line, here is how I help you take that idea from a hum in your head to a streaming-ready track.
Here's a 5-minute challenge where I build a song from scratch. This demonstrates my full production process: creating a melody, adding chords, programming drums, and recording vocals to deliver a complete track.
A view from the vocal booth. This is where the magic happens during a professional recording session. I can guide you through your vocal takes or record them myself to ensure a high-quality, polished sound.
A late-night session producing a house track. While my heart is in indie-pop, I'm versatile and enjoy producing different genres, including electronic and house music.
An impromptu jam session with fellow musicians. Collaboration is key in music, and I love bouncing ideas around to find the perfect arrangement for a song.
A full view of my home studio setup. With multiple guitars, a djembe, a keyboard, and professional monitors, I have all the tools needed to produce a rich, layered sound for your song.
My songwriting essentials: a guitar and a journal. Every song starts with an idea, and I can help you develop your lyrical themes and musical concepts into a structured piece.
Behind the scenes at a photoshoot for a music project. Creating a strong visual aesthetic is part of the process, and I help artists develop a look that matches their sound.
A glimpse into a studio session, with one musician tracking guitars and another working on the mix. I manage the entire production, coordinating with different artists to bring all the elements together.
A fun collaboration with other artists. I'm experienced in working within a group, arranging parts for different vocalists and instrumentalists to create a cohesive sound.
The aftermath of a songwriting session. This is where ideas are born. Whether you have a full notebook of lyrics or just a single line, we can start from there.
About The Creative Process: Crafting Your Sound
My songwriting process is rarely linear. We start wherever you are—some clients come with a notebook full of poems, others with just a vague feeling or a melody they hummed in the shower. I typically sketch out ideas on guitar or keys first to find the emotional core of your story, then we layer the production around that. Whether we are stripping it back to a raw acoustic demo or building a high-energy pop track with full instrumentation, the goal is always to make the sound fit your story, not the other way around.
Whether you are a poet looking to add melody to your words or a storyteller who needs a track to match your vibe, I work to bridge that gap. We are not just putting chords together; we are translating your personal experience into sound.
From Idea to Arrangement
Every song starts with a 1-hour brainstorming session. I do not believe in templates. If you have a scrap of a melody or a theme, we sit with that. I often start on the acoustic guitar to ensure the song holds up on its own, which is the hallmark of a strong composition. Once that foundation is solid, we move to the arrangement—adding drums, synths, or bass lines depending on whether you want an indie-pop feel or something with a hip-hop edge.
The Technical Details
Depending on your project's scope, we record in my home studio or move to a professional setup like The Blue Cat Recording Co for high-end tracking. For vocal production, I focus on guiding your performance so it stays honest, not over-produced. I handle the mixing and mastering so your track is ready for Spotify or Apple Music, including 24-bit WAV deliverables.
What You Get
You own the master rights to the song. My role is to be the producer and co-writer who protects your vision. We keep the process transparent—with defined revision rounds for songwriting and mixing—so you never feel like your song is being molded into someone else's style. Let's make something that actually sounds like you.
