Handmade Portraits of Children
Childhood moments fly by so fast. I capture that fleeting, pure joy in a hand-drawn portrait, focusing on the spark in their eyes and their genuine expressions.
This A1 size portrait of a little boy in a formal coat is absolutely adorable. The large format allowed me to capture the texture of his coat and his charming expression in great detail using colored pencils.
A sweet baby portrait drawn with graphite on A4 paper. The black and white style is perfect for capturing the soft features and innocent expression of a little one.
An incredibly detailed A1 size colored pencil drawing of a baby. The large scale allows for hyper-realistic skin tones and captures the baby's curious expression perfectly.
This A4 graphite sketch of a little girl eating a cupcake is a moment of pure, candid joy. Black and white art is great for freezing these fleeting, beautiful memories in time.
A divine portrait of a child dressed as Lord Murugan for a festival. This A2 size colored pencil drawing is vibrant and detailed, capturing both the child's likeness and the spiritual costume.
This little boy in a bright yellow traditional outfit makes for a very cheerful A3 portrait. I used colored pencils to bring out the festive colors and his happy smile.
A super cute baby in a bear hoodie, drawn on A4 paper. The colored pencils helped me create the fuzzy texture of the suit, making the portrait feel cozy and warm.
About this collection
I spend extra time on facial features because that is where the childhood magic lives. Whether it is a candid shot of them playing in the rain or a festive portrait, I draw every detail by hand—from the texture of their clothes to the sparkle in their eyes. No digital tricks, just real pencil work on 200gsm acid-free paper that is built to last.
When you look at a photo, you see a moment. When I draw that moment, I try to capture the life behind it. Drawing children presents a unique challenge—their expressions change in a heartbeat, and their skin tones require delicate, soft blending to look natural.
How I Approach Your Child's Portrait
I work primarily with two mediums, and the choice depends on the vibe you want:
- Graphite & Charcoal: These are perfect for a classic, timeless look. They excel at highlighting the innocence in a child's eyes and creating a soft, old-school feel that looks great in any room.
- Colored Pencils: If you want to capture the vibrancy of a festive outfit or the bright colors of their favorite toys, I use professional-grade oil-based pencils. This allows me to render textures like silk, cotton, or even a soft sweater hoodie with high realism.
Quality That Lasts
I use 200gsm acid-free, heavy-weight cartridge paper for all children's portraits. It is thick, durable, and won't yellow over time, ensuring that the drawing you receive today remains a centerpiece for your home years down the line. Every finished piece is sealed with a fixative spray to prevent smudging or fading.
The Process
Once you share the reference photo, we discuss the size and medium. If the photo is from a special event—like a naming ceremony, Janmashtami, or a birthday—I take care to maintain the authenticity of the attire and background. You don't need a perfect, studio-lit photo; even candid phone photos work. My job is to translate that photo into a piece of art that feels as warm and lively as the memory itself.
