Architectural Design Process: From Concept to Execution
Transparent design planning, technical site supervision, and architectural drawings that bridge the gap between initial concepts and the final built environment.
A before-and-after front elevation drawing for Shiv Mishthan Bhandar. This illustrates the planned transformation, showing how the new facade design provides a modern, clean, and more inviting storefront.
This is the detailed architectural drawing for the jharokhas used in the Shiv Mishthan Bhandar interior. The design process involved engaging skilled craftsmen from Rajasthan to execute these traditional elements.
These are my initial concept sketches for the Jain Cosphere Office. This is where the material palette of wood, green, and brass was established, and the layout of the reception, cabin, and conference room was first visualized.
The floor plan for Apartment 704, showing the structural interventions. The concept involved removing a bedroom to create a larger, more open living and dining area, and extending the master washroom for a more spacious feel.
A photo from the Kaira residence site, showing a craftsman at work on the rubble masonry and classical mouldings of the open-to-sky shaft. This highlights the attention to detail and craftsmanship during the construction phase.
An under-construction view of an upcoming residence in DLF Phase 1. This image shows the early stages of interior work, including the installation of wooden ceiling battens, which are part of a minimalistic, Japandi-inspired aesthetic.
This video montage shows the site progress of a residence in DLF Phase 1. It offers a glimpse into the construction process, from bare walls and stone cladding to the installation of interior finishes.
The rear shaft front elevation and plan for the Kaira residence. These technical drawings detail the classical mouldings and stone cladding designed to adorn the open-to-sky shaft, ensuring it is a beautiful feature.
A sectional elevation drawing for the Jain Cosphere Office. This plan details the heights and arrangement of the partitions and furniture, ensuring a cohesive and well-proportioned interior.
An elevation and section detail for the conference room partition in the Jain Cosphere Office. This drawing specifies the MS frame and panel construction for the custom artwork display.
About From Concept to Completion
I begin every project by establishing a rigorous technical framework—merging your requirements with structural realities. This involves creating precise 2D floor plans, 3D visualizations, and MEP drawings that act as a detailed roadmap for construction. By finalizing these specifications before we break ground, I ensure that the design intent is preserved throughout the renovation or build, minimizing site errors and costly rework.
Architecture is not merely about aesthetics; it is the calculated translation of a brief into a physical reality. My process for every project—whether it is a restaurant renovation in Old Delhi or a luxury residence—is structured around high-fidelity planning.
The Design Foundation
Every project starts with the brief and site analysis. For residential transformations, such as the work seen in Apartment 704, this involves evaluating structural limitations, like load-bearing walls or service areas. We move from initial sketches to detailed 2D layouts and 3D visualizations, allowing you to inhabit the space digitally before a single brick is laid. This stage is crucial for determining the material palette, lighting schemes, and spatial flow.
Technical Documentation
I place significant emphasis on technical documentation, including:
- MEP Drawings: Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing plans that ensure functionality is baked into the walls, not added as an afterthought.
- Sectional Elevations: Detailed drawings (like those used for the Jain Cosphere Office conference room) that specify partition heights, panel construction, and joinery details.
- Site-Specific Adaptations: Developing bespoke details, such as the jharokhas for traditional storefronts or rubble masonry shafts for residential light wells, to ensure the architecture responds to its specific context.
Construction and Supervision
Moving from drawing to site requires constant oversight. During the construction phase, I am involved in the translation of these drawings into the final build. This includes coordinating with craftsmen for custom carpentry, stone cladding, and facade detailing. My supervision ensures that the conceptual vision—the play of light, the material juxtaposition, and the structural volumes—is executed with the precision specified in the initial design package.
