Gentle & Effective Pest Control for Terrace Gardens
Pests are a natural part of gardening, but they do not have to ruin your plants. I use simple, organic ways to keep my terrace healthy and pest-free, and I can show you how to do the same.
Spraying neem oil is a regular part of my plant care routine. I will show you the right way to mix it with a little soap and water, and why it is important to spray in the evening for the best results.
Here, I demonstrate two traditional methods for making your own pesticide from neem. One method uses dried neem seeds to extract pure oil, and the other uses fresh leaves to create a neem-infused oil.
This is my monthly routine. I give my plants a handful of vermicompost for nutrition and then spray them with neem oil to prevent any pests. This combination keeps them healthy and strong.
About Gentle & Effective Pest Control
You do not need harsh chemicals to keep your plants healthy. My go-to is a simple neem oil spray. I mix 3 to 5ml of cold-pressed neem oil with a few drops of soap solution in a liter of water. The trick is to spray in the evening and ensure you cover the undersides of the leaves where pests like aphids often hide.
Pests are an inevitable part of gardening, but they do not have to be a disaster. My approach is preventative rather than reactive. If you catch issues early, you rarely need anything stronger than organic solutions.
The Neem Routine
I use a neem oil solution not just to treat problems, but to prevent them. A basic mix of 3-5ml neem oil with a few drops of dish soap as an emulsifier in one liter of water is usually enough. Remember to spray in the evening when the sun is down to avoid leaf burn, and always focus on the undersides of the leaves.
Routine Care
Healthy plants are less susceptible to pests. My monthly routine involves enriching the soil with vermicompost and regular inspection. If I spot a few infected leaves, I prune them manually before they spread. This simple habit keeps my garden flourishing and chemical-free.
Natural Pest Solutions
- Manual Removal: For small infestations, simply pruning the infected part is often enough.
- Neem-Infused Oil: I often make my own by simmering neem leaves in coconut or mustard oil for a milder, natural option.
- Sour Curd: Diluted 1:10, this can help combat fungal infections and root rot.
Whether you are dealing with aphids or mealybugs, patience and consistency are your best tools. I am here to help you understand what your plants are trying to tell you.
