Split Earlobe Repair and Reconstruction Surgery
A torn or stretched earlobe does not have to be permanent. I perform precise surgical repairs in a sterile clinical setting to restore your lobe's natural shape and integrity.
A clear before-and-after of a torn earlobe repair. This surgical procedure carefully stitches the split tissue back together, creating a smooth, healed lobe that can be re-pierced later.
This image highlights the common issue of a stretched or torn earlobe, often caused by heavy earrings or trauma. My repair procedure is a simple, effective surgical solution to restore the lobe's appearance.
About Earlobe Repair & Reconstruction
I don’t just stitch the edges together, as that often leads to the tear recurring when you wear earrings again. Instead, I use Pardue’s Flap Technique. This involves creating a tiny tissue flap to reinforce the new hole, ensuring the lobe doesn't just look normal again but is actually strong enough to support jewelry in the future.
Understanding Earlobe Repair
Many patients come to me assuming earlobe repair is a simple, non-medical procedure that can be done in a salon. This is a misconception that often leads to repeated tearing. Whether your lobe is split due to the weight of heavy earrings, a sudden pull, or a stretched piercing, the tissue needs more than a quick stitch.
The Surgical Approach
When I perform a lobuloplasty at Vitals Klinic, I treat it as a proper surgical procedure. This means:
- Sterile OT Environment: All repairs are done in a dedicated minor operation theatre, not an exam room. This significantly reduces the risk of infection.
- Pardue’s Flap Technique: I use this specific surgical method to create a flap of tissue that reinforces the repair site. This strengthens the lobe, preventing the newly healed skin from simply pulling apart again the next time you wear jewelry.
- Minimal Scarring: I use fine, non-absorbable monofilament sutures to close the wound. My goal is to ensure the eventual scar is minimal and well-hidden.
What to Expect
The procedure is straightforward but requires professional care. It is performed under local anesthesia, so you are awake but feel no pain. The actual surgery takes roughly 20 to 45 minutes.
After the procedure, you will have a small dressing that stays on for a short period. You will need to come back 7 to 10 days later for me to remove the sutures. I also provide clear, written instructions on how to care for the site at home to ensure it heals flat and smooth. If you are looking to get your ears re-pierced, we will discuss the right timeline during your follow-up, ensuring the tissue is fully matured before any new weight is applied.
