About Portraits of Icons
When I paint icons like Satyajit Ray or Marilyn Monroe, I do not use standard brushes. I use custom-designed palette knives to build heavy, sculptural textures on the canvas. This means the portrait changes based on the light in your room, making the art feel like a living, breathing part of your space rather than just a flat image on the wall.
Why Texture Matters in a Portrait
Most prints or flat paintings offer a static image. My portraits are different because they are built to interact with your environment. By using high-relief impasto techniques, I ensure that the face of the icon—whether it is the thoughtful gaze of a filmmaker or the vibrant energy of a music legend—emerges from the canvas differently as the sun moves across your wall throughout the day.
