Welcome to Gir National Park, the only place in Asia where lions roam free. This isn't Africa; this is the raw, untamed heart of India, where I film stories of royalty walking wild.
About The Kings of Gir: Asiatic Lions
Filming in Gir isn't just about showing up; it’s about reading the signs of the forest to anticipate a lion’s movement. I spend hours tracking pugmarks and listening for alarm calls before I even touch my camera, so you get the shot of the King in his natural stride rather than a staged interaction.
When you visit Gir National Park, there is a specific feeling—that heavy silence when the jungle holds its breath. That is what I aim to translate into 4K video. My process is strictly documentary-style; I do not follow the tourist crowd. Instead, I focus on the lion's behavior, whether it is a pride resting in the shade or a male patrolling his territory.
The Tech Behind the Roar
I shoot exclusively on the Nikon Z8, allowing me to capture the subtle texture of a lion’s mane or the intensity of a gaze at 120fps. This is crucial because, in the wild, you often get only one chance to capture that perfect, slow-motion stride. I use N-Log color grading to keep the footage looking real—not over-saturated or overly processed—just how the forest actually feels at golden hour.
Why Ethics Matter
Wildlife videography in Gujarat is not just about the final cut. It is about patience and respect. I never bait or disturb the animals. You will see this in the footage; the lions are relaxed because we maintain a respectful distance. If you are looking for a documentary-short or cinematic B-roll of the Asiatic Lion for a project, I bring the local knowledge of Gir’s terrain to ensure we get authentic behavior, not just a snapshot of a cat.
