About this collection
These 3D tiles require a bit more planning than standard ones. Because they have real physical depth, they are heavier than standard wall tiles and cannot simply be stuck on with basic cement. We need to evaluate your wall surface and ensure your mason is comfortable with large-format, high-relief textures to avoid any alignment issues or uneven grout lines later.
While 3D and textured porcelain tiles are visually stunning, they function differently than flat ceramic pieces. The interplay of light and shadow is what makes them popular for accent walls in living rooms or statement hallways, but this effect depends entirely on your room's lighting. A wall with direct spotlighting will look drastically different from one in ambient, soft light.
Practical Considerations for 3D Walls
- Surface Preparation: Unlike flat tiles, 3D tiles highlight imperfections. Your wall must be perfectly plumb and even before installation starts. If your walls aren't level, the texture will catch light unevenly and look jarring.
- Maintenance: Textured surfaces catch dust more easily than smooth glazed tiles. These are best used in low-traffic areas or on focal walls that you don't mind dusting occasionally. Avoid using these in areas prone to heavy grease buildup like directly behind a stovetop.
- Installation: These are not DIY projects. You need specialized adhesive, not standard cement slurry, to support the weight and geometry of these tiles. Always use high-quality, flexible epoxy grout for the joints to ensure longevity without cracking.
- Planning the Layout: Because these tiles often form a repeating pattern or a large mural, calculation errors can ruin the look. We recommend dry-laying the pattern on the floor before the mason starts applying them to the wall, especially if your wall dimensions are tight.
Our team in Bengaluru helps you account for these factors during the selection process. We guide you on whether a specific 3D texture will work in your room's lighting and help you calculate the exact number of tiles needed, including a buffer for the complex cuts that inevitably occur with textured patterns.
