About Malnad Life: Homestays, Tents & Local Food
When you book a trip with us, do not expect hotel room service. Our stays are traditional Malnad homestays or nature camps where we often share dormitory-style setups or floor mattresses. It is simple, rustic, and clean, meant for people who value the experience of living among areca plantations over luxury. You will be eating whatever the local host makes—fresh, simple, and filling—just like we do at home. If you want a 5-star resort, this is not for you, but if you want to wake up to the sounds of the Ghats, you are in the right place.
Living the Malnad Way
For us, the stay is as much a part of the trek as the waterfall. We avoid commercial hotels because they strip away the soul of the region. Instead, we tie up with local families in the heart of the Western Ghats. In places like Siddapur, Coorg, or Shivamogga, you will be staying in traditional homes with tiled roofs and vast, misty areca plantations right in the backyard.
What’s on the Plate?
You will eat what the locals eat. Think piping hot Neer Dosa, Idli, and Kadubu for breakfast, and traditional Rice Sambar with local veggies or chicken curry for dinner. Everything is cooked over wood fires or on simple stoves, using ingredients fresh from the garden. If we are in Maharashtra, expect the local flavor of Vada Pav. It is not about variety; it is about the taste of the land.
The Real Monsoon Experience
Camping or staying in a homestay during the monsoon is raw. Sometimes the roads are muddy, the power might flicker, and you will hear the rain hitting the roof all night. This is the real deal. We provide the basics—clean bedding, shared washrooms, and hot water at fixed times. Our setups are about community, so expect to share your space, make new friends, and leave your city stress behind.
Our Promise
Nature is not a garbage dump; it is everyone's property. Whether we are staying in a tent by a river or a homestay in the hills, we follow a zero-litter policy strictly. We respect the privacy and lifestyle of our hosts, and we expect our trekking family to do the same. If you are ready for a real, unfiltered adventure in Karnataka’s beautiful landscapes, come join us.
